Like he said, this CANNOT be used on a Blackberry 8100. It can only be used on a Blackberry 8130.

I just notice that Sprint came out with this same update, 4.3.0.203/4.3.0.127. Would this be any different than the release by Ntelos, or did it just take Sprint a few weeks longer to test and release the same thing?

These versions are released by Blackberry, correct? So if something was different it would have a different number?

Thanks.

You can install any 8130 OS onto your 8130. It doesn't have to be from your carrier. All the OS's are developed by RIM and the carriers test and release them when they feel like it.

Again, you CAN load this to your 8130. it's just not released by your carrier Alltel.
Probably would help if I read the forums more carefully. Sorry.

I installed the Sprint released O/S a few days ago and it worked like a charm!

Either one will work, but if you use the Sprint release, you don't need to delete the vendor.xml file.

Good luck!

Wasn't there supposed to be a way to keep the backlight on while charging with the new os?

I am excited. First time I did an upgrade of an OS and thanks to you, it was "smooth and painless". The Google maps froze and once I deleted it and re-installed it, it works fine. Significantely more free memory.
Thanks again.

Quite a bit more memory here. The whole phone seems to run a little smoother. Haven't tested the memory leak yet, but will report back. Thanks John for the walk through.

Has anyone installed this on an 8130 from Verizon and ran into any issues? Just want to make sure before I try it.

See my previous post (post #17)

That's the issue I had, don't know if it is a bug in the OS or just specific to my phone since nobody ever replied to my post. I did revert back to v4.3.0.97 though since I have had no real issues with that OS.

Other than this I did not see any other differences. So I guess I will be sticking with 4.3.0.97 for a while longer. Got to have sound with my brickbreaker!

p.s. First post by the way, although I have been a reader for a while. Lots of great information here.
You mean the sound starts but doesn't finish? I noticed that and sometimes there was no sound at all. Seems like a bug to me. Anyone else?

I still have the old 4.3.0.60 firmware. I'm ready to upgrade. The catch is I'm hooked up with my company's BES. Would I have to re-register with my corporate blackberry server (meaning contact our HelpDesk)? Not a big deal but with the backup > firmware upgrade > restore does it lose BES settings?

Please advise.

Default New OS - 06-18-2008, 05:37 PM

Something I noticed with this new OS from Sprint, I lost the option to delete messages on the inbox from the device. Before I had a choice to delete just in the device or the inbox (eg: Yahoo mail, Google etc.) or both. Now just the device. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well, I don't get it.

I went to the link for the download, downloaded it, installed it (I guess), and I see no difference anywhere in the phone. In "about" in the options area it lists the same 4.3.0.81 version 3.8.5.11b as before, etc.

Maybe I don't know how to install on the Pearl?

What I did:

- attached the phone to my computer with the cable.

- downloaded the file

- clicked install

- started destop manager

- clicked update

nothing... ??

You didn't follow the directions in correct order.

Now UNattach the BB from the USB cable.

Close Desktop Manager.

Get a drink of water.

Reattach to the USB.

Open Desktop Manager, and you should get a prompt to upgrade.

Re-read the directions posted above if you have questions.

This should now be an options under Messages>Message Options>Email Reconsciliation. It gives you the choice of Handheld, Both, or Prompt, for each of your email accounts.

Dang it, I was hoping to get back in here and erase.. er, edit my post before anyone saw it.

The big thing I didn't do right was delete the file pointed out in the first post in this thread, that left my old software in. *blush* .. etc..

All is well now.. works great with the new software.

Thanx for reading and responding to my post.

Can someone answer my question about re-registering with a corporate BES server upon upgrading of firmware. Would I have to do that?

Thanks!

Yes, you absolutely do have to reactivate on the BES after an OS upgrade.

Do you have to reset everything? It seems that when i updated I had to go through tutorial again. I also had to setup my icons in the order i like them again. This is my first upgrading of my blackberry. Thanks for the response and all the help.

Another question. I selected to backup before proceeding and I was just wondering where my backup file is incase i need to revert back to my backup.

I am kind of curious how DM knows which OS to use because i have two in my folder now.

Again thanks for answers guys.

All I did was cancel the tutorial.

My original settings, messages etc were there already; no need for the tutorial again.

I'd like to find out how to delete the tutorial and its modules.

How does application switcher drain memory? I have used the program and kind of thought it as an alt+tab for my pearl. I certainly dont know as the phone is brand new to me just kind of curious is to how that can cause a memory leak?

From my limited time on here that is an older version than the one at the top of this thread.

I have searched quite a bit on multiple forums and cannot find the answer to the following. When I use the backup feature in DM, then restore from the backup file, it seems to save all my messages, icon placement, setting, etc. but doesn't seem to reinstall the applications that were installed at the time of backup. Am I doing something wrong or does DM not restore these applications?

John Clark has made mention of this in a previous post.. You have to use Switch Device and at a certain spot you open Windows Explorer and goto the temp directory and find your device pin and then copy that directory somewhere else, then cancel the switch. Unfortunately I can't remember how to get the applications back onto the device but I am sure one of the Mods or John can tell you.

This is an OS for the 8130, not the 8310. It won't work on an 8310.

You might have made the same mistake I did.. here's the step by step instructions:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2, or Version 4.3, and can be downloaded Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Step #3 is the one I omitted, resulting in no prompt for upgrade.

Once I did that, everything went fine.

[EDIT] oh, I see that you have the wrong device as pointed out by JC there.
