Default Os: 8130 4.3.0.203/4.3.0.127 - 06-01-2008, 10:52 AM

New OS for the 8130 series device (released by Ntelos.) This OS will work on any carrier's 8130 device, including Verizon/Sprint.

  • Applications: 4.3.0.127
  • Software Platform: 3.1.0.73
  • File name: 8130uEFS_PBr4.3.0_rel203_PL3.1.0.73_A4.3.0.127_NTE LOS.exe
  • File size: 97.0 MB

Download here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...615847C1CAA69A

Select Blackberry 8130 from the dropdown and click Next. Then click the "Download" link that appears at the bottom of the page.

Instructions for installing on any CDMA 8130 from any carrier:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2, or Version 4.3, and can be downloaded Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous version OS is located here.

just got off the phone with alltel, had to make sure before I did anything, that link up there sent me to an Ntelos download.
The Tech guy over there told me that there is no update for my 8130, and that update is for the curve? dude also would told me that I would be informed of any updates...

as it is.. I don't have any support for MMS, and the GPS is problematic.. so I'm wondering what to do and who to believe.oh yeah, I apparently have v4.3.0.81

Bgnome...welcome to the forums.

You can install any 8130 OS onto your 8130. It doesn't have to be from your carrier. All the OS's are developed by RIM and the carriers test and release them when they feel like it.

Again, you CAN load this to your 8130. it's just not released by your carrier Alltel.

There is a misprint in your Text in the original post.

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2, or Version 4.3, and can be downloaded Click Here. or from the AllTel site linked above.

The site linked is for Ntelos and you say Alltel. That's where the confusion is.

Fixed. I just copied and pasted the instructions from the last "latest OS" post. I missed that. Thanks!

Thanks, I installed today--no problems. The only difference I've noticed so far is a little more memory available, which is fine. Anyone know what's in this release?

This is for CDMA devices, not GSM (which is what T-Mobile has). You cannot install this on an 8100 device.

You have to look in the thread that corresponds you your device's model number (e.g. 8100, 8120).

A serious issue I've discovered with the new version is that it won't let me hold down the ALT key to type in numbers consecutively. It's ALT, release, first number. ALT, release, second number, and so on.

What application(s) are you using when this happens. If I am creating a new email message, I can hold down Alt and type consecutive numbers. It sounds like an issue with specific applications.

I did have a faulty Pearl 8130 and picked up its replacement last night. I loaded the new OS and I can ALT-number consecutively. Sorry for the false alarm. I'm happy to have a fully working Pearl once more!

Anybody else notice sound problems in brickbreaker after this update? Like the sound effects seem to disappear.

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling brickbreaker, didn't help. Then tried wiping and reinstalling firmware (extreme I know, but I like this game). Still didn't work. I then decided to revert back to 4.3.0.97 and the sound problem was gone.

Other than this I did not see any other differences. So I guess I will be sticking with 4.3.0.97 for a while longer. Got to have sound with my brickbreaker!

p.s. First post by the way, although I have been a reader for a while. Lots of great information here.

Thanks for the link, downloading now for the missus' 8130.
By the way, that file size should read 97MB (not 37MB).

.172 has seemed to fix my speaker phone problem of the speaker phone coming on for a second and then going back to the handset when I answered a call...

Interesting, I'll have to watch for that.

Anyone notice memory management being better w/this release?

Yep, i noticed that immediately.

Have Gmail, Gmaps, Livesearch, softreset installed. Was at 20megs free...

Never been able to break 20 after a reboot before.

(my install is not stripped completely, like one can with the installs)

If I have apps installed that I purchased, will these be lost in the process or should all of my software stay in tact?

It will automatically backup and restore all of that. However, in case of problems I recommend doing this:

Ok, just to be clear, I should do those steps to backup my apps just in case something fails and just don't do the wipe part, right?

Once I have the backup complete, I can proceed with the upgrade?

Yes, just make the backup and keep it somewhere for safe keeping in case anything goes wrong. The update process will backup and restore everything. This is just to have in your back pocket, just in case.

I would update. Memory leaks still occur, though. If you use the "application switcher" too often or use other memory intensive applications. Make sure you're not using the application switcher very often.

Thanks for the info!

By the way, I have a Sprint phone and I noticed they also have this same file available here:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Would there be any reason to install this one rather than the one you posted?

Would I still need to delete the vendor.xml file if I used this one?

If your carrier offers the same version, then by all means, load that ne. No need to delete the vendor.xml file if you install an OS from your own carrier.

Default Thanks john - 06-10-2008, 07:10 PM

I appreciate it...I dont use application switcher at all...it just seems like somethings taking memory but meanwhile, there's nothing running other than the few manditory ones. I will give it a try installing it!

Rob

p.s. I really enjoy your threads and posts...very very informative, I've learned a lot from reading what you say!

OK, I have had "connecting to desktop" showing on my device now for about 45 minutes. I have finished the "Load Java Applications" step and am now at the "wait for device initialization" (2nd one) and my desktop Updating Your Device screen says "connecting to device" and the bar is at about 1/3rd of the way finished and does not seem to be moving. I am afraid to do anything at this point, but I think I am frozen. Any suggestions?

Mine didn't take 45 minutes, but it DID take a while. I ended up just walking away (I forget for how long) and when I came back, it was fine.
