if i buy the blackberry pearl at retail price (verizon) do i have to purchase the data plan? andd if i dont have the data plan can i still go on aim ( i have unlimited texts)

Yes, Verizon requires you to purchase the data plan to go with it. You won't be able to use AIM without it either. Even thought the individual messages may send using sms, the app still connects to the server using data.

You need a plan.

I have the data package plan through Alltel. Unlimited internet etc....
