It takes 20-30 minutes to reboot after an OS load.

Default Updated 8100 to 4.5 -- Media won't find music - 07-01-2008, 09:33 AM

the update went smoothly, but now the media player can't find any songs. It just says Scanning at the bottom of the screen -- any ideas? I tried reformating the media card and reloading the music, but that didn't work.
thanks

tukkas, is the BB device still plugged into the PC via USB? Try it unplugged.

Also, there are some Media Card which have not worked well on OS 4.5, few, but some.

thanks Jsanders -- the device is unplugged. The interesting thing is that if I click on explore the music icon is selected, then I can see and play the tracks. So it the media card works, in the sense that the music is there, it's just that the Scanning app doesn't see them. Thanks in advance to anyone who has seen this and knows how to fix.

Not sure what the solution is, but I have seen this many times on 4.5. I find that about 20% of the time after a reboot, my media is not scanned properly and completely. The "scanning" progress bar sticks on the bottom of the media page, and it won't complete scanning. I've had this occur and not scan any of the media, or scan most of the media but then stop.

The only way I have found to clear this up is a battery pull and hope it scans properly upon bootup.

Good luck. Let us know if you find a better solution. I assume this is an OS bug and hopefully will be fixed in later versions.

Hi,

two questions regarding the update:

1) I installed the update this afternoon for a friend on my own computer. When connecting his BB to my computer, the desktop messenger gave a message about it being connected to another BB and whether it should now be connected to the new one (the one of my friend). I accepted. More or less since that moment I am not receiving mails on my own BB anymore. I am on a BES account; and my BB stil says it is activated. Although I cannot send receive mails anymore. Reactivating or regenerating encryption keys gives an error. Not sure if this coincidence or might be related?

I can still connect to the internet or other dataservices; the problem seems to be with finding the enterprise server. The error given is simply "an error occured please contact your sys. admin".

2) I could now finally install windows live messenger to my BB through the icon that newly appeared . I am on the movistar network in spain. Is this because the software is from t-mobile, or is windows live now available for all carriers?

thx

Well I think I figured this out. I removed all the OTA and extra APPS I had running i.e. Telenav, Color Pearl, SoftReset, LexSpell and my old Today Plus theme. and then upgraded. Worked like a charm.... also reformated the media card as per previous posts. I put the old Today Plus Theme back (OTA) and it worked to a degree. When I would "hide" or "move" application icons they would not stay hidden or moved after a reboot. So I guess I will have to settle for the regular "Today Theme" until it gets updated.

I also didn't put back Color Pearl or SoftReset due to previous posts about incompatability. I also loaded Telenav back at it seems to work fine... I use Telenav 5.1.1.3 for the ATT 8100.

This leaves LexSpell 2.2 I am reluctant to put it back....... has anyone used LexSpell for the 8100 with OS 4.5?

1. This is not good. Your friend now is getting your email as his BB is now activated on your account. Bad thing. Bad. You can reactivate yours by connecting it to DM and doing the same thing you did to his and changing the PIN back. However, he now has IT policy and all your emails since activation on his BB.

2. Not sure about that. Fix #1 ASAP first.

Here is a minor little problem in 4.5. On a web page in a text box when you first move the cursor into the box it goes into "enter" mode. If you accidentally move the cursor off the text box you can't get text enter mode back. Anyone else seen this. Is there a way to get text enter mode back?

What do you mean a package version or OS? Do you mean package/build # vs. app version? .46 is an app version and is newer than your .37. If you have it, install it. it's better than .37.

I found it online, but the label is 8100_4.5.0.46.exe.

I just get confused sometimes with the labels and wanted to verify if ".46" was an actually application version and not just another package with .37.

OK; i am a bit lost here. I didn't expect the desktop manager to communicate with our BES or whatsoever since my BB was not connected to my computer anymore.

My friend (or I should say colleague to clarify that he is working for the same company and on the same BES) is actually receiving his own mail since I actived him with this mail address and password.

How can I maintain 2 blackberries via my computer / desktop manager without creating this mess? I only use the desktop manager to update the firmware.

thx

Here's what I do:

Go into Desktop Manager (no device connected) and go to Options >Profile Options and tell Desktop Manager to "Prompt" you for the email profile to be used. Then when you connect a BB and open DM it will ask you for the profile. Click cancel. That will load no email profile and you can update others devices with no ill effects to yours. You can also tell it "No" when it asks you to switch PINs but I like the above method better.

I think what you did was you plugged his BB in to your profile and inadvertantly set up your BES account onto his BB when it asked you to switch pins. Then you said you activated his afterward with an email address and password supplied by IT dept. using the Enterprise Activation in Options? That reactivated his BB to his email account but still left your device unactivated on the BES.

Hi everyone,

I am quite new to Blackberry, well I did figure out how to install OS upgrade and I have 4.2.1.109 (I believe that was the Rogers one)...

Is the latest 4.5 mentioned on this post stable? I did see the note regarding that beta versions did damage sim cards (thats scary)..as I am on T-mobile.

And searching on the posts on the site, I see that T-mobile runs BIS 2.5 now, and supports html email with 4.5 OS...

So who here is running this latest OS on their T-mobile 8100? and is it quite stable, and what is this camera not working stuff that I seeing on the posts?

I really appreciate your help

thanks,

Edit:

A question? how to downgrade to a lower version? When I enter de Desktop manager it doesn't downgrade itself :/ ...

I upgraded a few weeks ago. I have an unlimited BB plan with ATT and was shocked to see this months bill @ $600! Normally its about $150. The additioanl charges were for usage charges. CS at ATT adjusted it off, but was trying to figure out what triggered it.

The only things I did was change my plan by adding more minutes, and the OS upgrade.

After getting off the phone with CS, Opera Mini will not connect. The BB browerser works fine though. I'm guessing Opera is the culprit. I really like Opera, is there something the new OS changed to trigger this?
My TCP info is:
ANP: wap@cingular
Username : [email address]

Any ideas what happened?

Thanks

ps....check your bill!!

**UPDATE**

Opera Mini is working now. When it failed to connect, it did some kind of test. Once the test was done, it said you are now connected. We'll see if this triggers usage charges again. CS at ATT said she flagged my acct. so at the end of the next billing cycle they will review it to make sure there are no usage charges.

As you say, Opera was the culprit by the sounds of it. In the case of O2 UK (and I guess ATT is the same) GPRS data is SEPARATE to your BB plan. As a result if you use GPRS data you get charged for it. For this reason I have specifically left the GPRS settings (Options -> Advanced -> TCP) blank so I cannot use non-BB data. This unfortunately means some applications (including Opera) will not work.

EDIT: This is nothing to do with the OS version btw.

You have to uninstall the newer OS from your PC and reinstall the older OS. Remove vendor.XML if neccessary then start DM and it should detect the apps for downgrade. If you are using DM 4.5 you may have to click on advanced once in that menu.
