Default OS: 8100 4.5.0.52 / 4.5.0.37 vodafone.de - 06-12-2008, 08:23 AM

Latest 8100 OS: 4.5.0.52 / 4.5.0.37 vodafone.de
This OS will load on any carrier's 8100 model as long the user follows the instructions below exactly as written.

Package Version: 4.5.0.52; Consisting of:
Applications: 4.5.0.37
Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
File size: 81MB
Filename: 8100M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37

Hilfe & Support / BlackBerry / BlackBerry-Handhelds / BlackBerry 8100 vodafone.de

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

Link to Previous OS Thread: Click here

*Note: This version had known issues during beta testing on TMobile where sim cards would fail within a week of installing this OS. Load at your own risk.

*Note: Also, on all devices it's a good idea to make a backup of your media card before loading OS 4.5. Constant reboots can occur when using media cards formatted in OS 4.2 or 4.3 in OS 4.5. Then reformat the media card in OS 4.5 and restore your data.

*Note: While in Application Loader be sure and check the boxes to add Documents To Go to your device. Failure to install Documents To Go will cause java errors in some 3rd party apps.

Damn, and I'm about to roll out of town and don't have time to try it out. Sure could use functional bluetooth for my GPS on this trip. Hopefully they've got all the bluetooth issues they introduced in the 4.2.1 series fixed. It drives my mad having my GPS bluetooth connection fail constantly.

This was a decent release for me on the 8310--some browser issues related to entering text in text boxes, and clicking the submit button. Otherwise good.

Is this older or newer that the 4.5.0.42 beta that's been floating around? The naming scheme confuses me. Should I be looking at the "Package Version" or the "Applications" version number?

I had it with the BB browser, I don't use OM any longer.

Report back please if you find out.

Your .42 is newer.

Look at the application version for the "definitive" answer.

Thanks JS! I guess I will stick with .42 then. If this is the same .37 as the one that's been floating around in beta for for a while, it had many issues in my 8100.

No problems with opera mini or the BB browser. Have problems with media player! Freezing up, won't let me pause.

Long wait times with hourglass. Gotta see what the fixes are.

Does anyone know if this would be the same as the beta 4.5.0.37 build. Just don't want to bother updating if it is the exact same build that I already have on my device.

Thanks in advance.

My firm use BES. Do any of the features require a BES update? Will I get compatability errors if I update?

On another note, I hope that 4.5 being officially released means that RIM will put out a 4.5 compatible Today Plus theme!!!!!! Luckily I have the Zen+ theme but I prefer the bottom dock as opposed to the right dock Today Plus themes.

This is the same version as the beta .37 release. Other carriers will be releasing later versions, I am sure , within weeks.

Probably just uninstall and wait for a stable tmo version. Just too many problems to list and fix. It was worth a try. I don't mind waiting a few more weeks. Waited this long! No problems using BB browser or Opera Mini. Just everything else is malfunctioning!

Yeah only 3rd party app installed was opera mini! Removed that and still problems. Can't see where the problems are just yet. Did a few battery pulls to no avail!

Some problems just to name a few:
popping and crackling noise from nowhere.

Hourglass takes forever while loading anything.

Media player won't pause.

When BB browser runs it runs perfectly. No
problems with internet.

Anyone else having problems? Or am I just the lucky one?

Is your speacker bad, did you have this issue in prior verisons

Hourglass takes forever while loading anything.

As I recall on the 8100 everything took forever to load

Media player won't pause.

That could be a bug

When BB browser runs it runs perfectly. No
problems with internet.

Thats a PLUS

Default Screen Shot of BB Browser - 06-12-2008, 07:09 PM

Never had a problem with applications loading for so long before. Always been quick. Fresh install as per FAQ here. Hourglass froze for about 20 minutes(let it sit there to see if anything happened). Pulled the battery again. Rebooted, same problems. This time BB Browser is malfunctioning no matter which emulation mode its in. Here's a screen shot of it. Cant post or submit anywhere on the net.

Same as some previous beta version 4.5.0.18, 4.5.0.42.
- Color pearl not work
- too low performance
- gprs cannot work in some provider (452-02)
- Camera too dark.

I've downdrage to 4.2 after 30 mins used

Against better judgement I installed this and same thing restarts over and over. Then when it finally loads right it restarts in 15 to 30 minutes.

Color pearl has nothing to do with OS 4.5 problems. The color pearl application is a 3rd party application that needs to be re-written for 4.5

You probably missed the step where you need to delete the vendor.xml file.

Hi

With the official .37 out there and the unofficial .42 in Beta has anyone used both ? What's the difference ? The official .37 version seems to still have problems...were these sorted out in the .42 Beta and / or are there new issues ?

Can't see much point in changing to an "official" version if it's not as good as a later Beta ?!

Any comments ?

Thanks
