Default Should I Upgrade My BlackBerry 8100 Pearl OS?

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a BlackBerry Pearl at Christmas off of ebay and it was used at the time so its probably about a year old. I was thinking of upgrading the OS to 4.5.0.52 off of BlackBerryForums.com. Is it pretty easy to do, I dont want to do it if it could mess up my phone.

Personally if everything on your BlackBerry is working well, wait, for now. Better versions of that OS are due to arrive (hopefully) within a few weeks that will contain less bugs.
My opinion.

It's easy to do, but as JSanders said, waiting is always a good idea. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

agreed. if you rely on the phone, best wait to upgrade when your carrier releases the OS update so you know it's stable enough for them to release it. i rely heavily on my phone, and therefore i'm slow to update things until i know it'll remain reliable.

I got antsy and loaded it the day it came out on Vodafone. It was a little buggy, nothing major, but then today everything started slowing down big time. I'd be texting and could get 4-5 words ahead of what was showing up on the screen. Needless to say, I'm in the process of going back to 4.2.xx. When T-Mo releases it, I'll upgrade then. There wasn't any mind-blowing changes that I noticed that made it worth staying at 4.5.

Unfortunately "betas" are touch and go. I have had the 4.5.0.37 for a week now and it runs so much better than my old OS 4.2.xxx. The internet is so much quicker, the suggested word list on text is nice and the moveable cursor on webpages vice the tab style function is so intutitive with a track ball it is hard to imagine that it was not an original OS feature. I am highly anticipative about the BIS 2.5. Coming from a Windows Mobile 6 phone I was spoiled with the instant pushes from all of my emails including HTML (hotmail). Finally the functionality of the Windows based phones without the incredibly short battery life!

Now if someone would update the Colorpearl for the new OS I would be really happy!
