Default Verizon texting limited to 160 characters - 06-21-2008, 12:51 AM

I was with AT&T and am now with Verizon. While texting with AT&T I could send in to 6 pages of text at once, well broken up into 6 different texts. With Verizon it will not let me type more then 160 characters. Is there a way to unlock, so to speak, the ability to send one long text message that is broken up into seperate texts?

That feature is completely carrier dependent. Verizon doesn't support that on the Blackberry.

So SMS starts for Short Messaging Service, with the 160 character limit and now we need LMS?

But not everyone gets their email on their phones and sometimes you need to let someone know something now, not when they get a chance to check their email. This SMS issue is a huge annoyance to me.....

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

For time sensitive messages the BB has a phone in it.

SMS = SHORT Messaging Service. It has a 160 character limit per the agreed to global specification. Then again, Verizon isn't know for adhering to global standards (can you hear GSM now)?

Annoyance or not, SMS is for SHORT MESSAGES.

Sorry; that's the way it is.

I have Verizon.

On other phones (last one Razr I had) a person could SMS more than 160 characters and it would just break it up. Worked even better if the other persons phone supported this as well and didnt break it up into multiple messages. Its something tha RIM does probably so there isnt any problems sending txts to other carriers.

It's a carrier limitation. The old Verizon Motorolas (not of the 4-letter name variety) I had once upon a time never let me go over 160. They always started at 160 and counted down and then stubbornly refused to add anything else.
