just downloaded os 4.5 and need help updating my phone i just downloaded os 4.5 desktop manager and i was wondering if someone can give me steps on how to update my 8100 pearl handheld device |
Welcome to the BBforums. To update what? Your handheld device Operating System? See the Sticky Note at the top of this 8100 section, highlighted in yellow. Look at the OS for the 8100 only. |
yeah im new here so....i need help updating my handheld operating system |
The Operating System is not contained in the Desktop Manager download. The Operating system is a *separate* download that installs in addition to Desktop Manager. Desktop Manger will then install the OS to your device. See the thread that JSanders linked above. |
Downloading Desktop Manager 4.5 at the moment What are the main changes it has over 4.3? |
Linked here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...dafone-de.html All the instructions you need to upgrade your OS are in that first post, and as long as you follow those instructions exactly as written and in order, you will be fine. If your device is operating well as it is now, your being new and all as you mentioned, I would recommend leaving it be. If you need to upgrade, you have the instructions. Good luck. |

Desktop Manager will NOT upgrade your OS on the device. |
So downloading Desktop Manager WILL NOT upgrade the handheld OS, right? |

Judging by the speed of this download, it will be a while before I get to do the OS!! |

Well I was just grabbing it purely to see if there is new features or UI, but that's why I was asking. Was just wondering if its even worth getting |
Nope, not worth it for this. Just presenting additional problems less easy to troubleshoot as you upgrade. |
OK. Cheers for that. Will abandon it for now. Have started the 8310 Vodafone 4.5.0.37 OS download. Going to check the thread now. Saw something about the beta version frying sims, but need to go back and read full thread. Has that been sorted with full release? |
Wait, what BB do you have, your original post stated 8100, but your profile to the left states 8310. You need the OS for the 8310. http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...dafone-de.html "Most" of the fried SIM cards have come from Tmobile customers, running an 8320. I won't guarantee anything about yours, but it would quite rare. |
I'm not the OP  Mine is definitely an 8310. Its on O2 Ireland Have it downloaded now. Going to give it a shot |
Ah, I see you are not the OP. I thought maybe you had morphed somehow. Good luck. |
Why do I start silly stuff like this at 2am!!! LOL |
A good OS upgrade from start should take about about an hour, according to the size of the backup and reload of messages and logs, etc. Be patient, do not unplug the USB at anytime until fully complete. The last device initialization could appear stuck, give it time. |
