I really really want to buy a new pearl on ebay but I'm finding that the ones for "verizon" tend to cost more. I'm wondering if I can just get another carriers pearl, unlock it and use it on verizon. What do I need to do to make that happen and if I can, do I need to change the OS on it? I just trying to save a bucks here ppl :P

I believe Verizon won't allow devices on their network, other than those purchased from them.

Can the phone work on the Network - Yes it can. Same frequencies are supported
Will Vzw allow other phones on their network - Eventually yes, currently no.
Will Vzw purchasing Alltel speed this up - Probably only for Alltel customers.

Theoretically it will as alltel uses same technology! However as mentioned above VZW doesn't like to let other devices on their network though with the pending purchase of alltel they may le you. I wouldn't hold my breath though

I just bought a Verizon pearl to use on Alltel's network. Everything but the data works. It won't connect to alltel's data server. It's like having my RAZR all over again...
