Calendar Sync Issue
New to the forum with a question that is driving me nuts. I just bought a BB 8130 and am trying to sync is to my Outlook Express, I am running 2002 XP. When setting up a calendar sync, in the Select Device Application screen, I click on the calendar icon and am asked to "select a desktop application". The only choices I am given are Yahoo and ASCII Importer/Exporter. When I set up the address book, I was given the above two options and the "Microsoft Outlook Express" option, which worked for the address book. Why am I not given this option for setting up the calendar? Can I use either of the other two options to access my calendar? Thank you for your help.
MS Outlook Express does not have a calendar, does it?
It may not, I may have misspoken, I have MS Outlook installed on my PC and I use it for my email and calendar. However, when I synced my addresses, they synced to Outlook Express, which happens to be the same as my Outlook. I was assuming that I woul have the same options/pathways for setting up my calendar, if this is not true, I need to figure out a way to set up the calendar despite the situation.
No, MS Outlook is not the same as Outlook Express.
You need to specify that in your Desktop Manager > Sync > Configuration.
If you use Outlook on your PC, you will want your BB to sync with Outlook's Contacts, not Outlook Express.
I am using Outlook on my PC and am unable to find any Outlook Express program, except when I try to configure my syncronization. When the Desktop Manager serches for programs to sync to for my calendar I am not given either Outlook or Outlook Express as a option. However, when I was configuring my address book sync, the only option I had was Outlook Express. When I configured my address book to Outlook Express, all of the contact information is the same as my PC's Outlook. What is going on here? Do I have a shadow version of Outlook Express running parallel to Outlook? And why does the Desktop Manager only pickup Outlook Express for my address and not for my Calendar?
Since my last post, I have removed MS Outlook Express from my computer. I still have the same problems: 1. BB's Desktop Manager is still syncing the address book to MS Outlook Express and, 2. I am not able to sync to any calendar.
Do you have MS Outlook (NOT Express) actually installed in to your PC?

I do have Outlook and that is the program that I use to send/receive my email. As I learned, my OS came with Express, which was running parallel to my Outlook. I went in to add/remove and removed Outlook Express, restarted my computer, reconnected my BB and performed the sync funtion. Desktop manager is still showing that I am syncing to Outlook Express, I expected to get an error from the sync, but did not. This must mean that Express is continuing to operate; so I looked under add/remove again and found that Express was not listed as a running porgram. So, I am wondering why my BB did not get an error message when I ran the sync, and how did it utilize a program that I "removed"? This is all very strange. I really appreciate your help.
By-the-way, I have MS Outlook 2000 SR-1, version 18.104.22.16821 installed on my PC.
Maybe the easiest answer - a bit bruter force - is to uninstall the desktop manager completely, then reinstall it with attention to the synch configuration. On the reinstall, if Outlook Express really is absent, you should not even see it as an option anywhere
I just did that and darn it all, Outlook Express is still an option for my address book, but not available for the calendar. Again, I removed the Outlook Express from my computer and it is not showing as an active program. This has me stumped.
Please, do this:
1. Connect your BlackBerry® device to your computer.
2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3. Double-click Synchronize.
4. On the Configuration tab, click Configure synch.
You will see:
Calendar <--> select this and then click SETUP and choose Microsoft Outlook
Memo Pad <-->
Address Book <--> select this and then click SETUP and choose Microsoft Outlook
If you don't have Microsoft Outlook as an option for those two choices it is likely because your version of Desktop Manager might version 4.3 (which does not support MS Outlook 2000). DM version 4.2, Service Pack 2 does support and sync to Outlook 2000.
This has gone back and forth (your first post here says you want your calendar to sync to Express, then you say you don't -- and later that you have uninstalled Express).
Questions, for clarity (because I really would like this solved for you):
1. What version of Desktop Manager do you have (Help > About)?
2. You would like your BB Address Book to sync to _____________?
3. You would like your BB Calendar to sync to ______________?

Thank you very much for the information regarding Desktop Manager 4.2 SP 2. I down loaded the software and was able to successfully sync my BB to both the calendar and address book. I guess that it was my mistake in thinking that the newest software would be backwards compatable with Outlook 2000.
In the beginning I thought that I was running Outlook Express, because that was the only program that was listed by Desktop Manager, that I could sync to. After I installed DM 4.2 SP 2 MS Outlook appeared, along with awhole raft of other programs. I have all of my ducks in a row now and am good to go. Thank you so much for your help.
