Unhappy 8100 with 4.5.0.37 terrible slow - 07-02-2008, 05:22 AM

Hi,

i have got a 8100 series from a pal. He has updated his 8100 Series with the latest Firmware. Update process runs fine but the BB needs around 6! minutes to boot and another 30 seconds to open a menu or application.

The only mistake was that my pal hasn't deleted the vendor.xml. Could this be the problem?
The Blackberry is from T-Mobile and the firmware was the one from the Vodafone homepage.

Best regards,
RaceBreed

That's possible biky the OS likley woukldnt have upgraded if vendor.XML was wrong try reformating the media card and if installed get rid of color pearl, softreset and the today plus theme. Are if that works better.

Vendor.xml doesn't work that way.

Vendor.xml not deleted = OS won't load at all
Vendor.xml deleted = OS will load.

it's like an on/off switch.

.37 is slow to the point of being unusable. try to find the .42 firmware. MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

I would not install .37 on an 8100. Even the latest Beta has issues.

A cold reset appears to solve speed issue for me; but each cold reset sets my desktop icons' arrangement and visibility back to default. Annoying.

None of the releases have fixed the camera on the 8100 yet.

I find .42 to be so so, miss the themes. Will the stargazer theme work on .42?

I've got the .52 OS on my pearl now. I actually don't know what all this talk of the camera is. My camera looks great. Maybe its just me. I got rid of colorpearl, and she works great. Fast, sleek, and no problems!

Try taking a picture outside and you'll see what everyone is talking about. The light sensor doesn't work.

Oh I see. I just went outside and got a white screen. Okay, so no outside shots for me until that's fixed. No big deal. Everything else works great. I'm happy.

So...on the list of things to wait for...
1 - new colorpearl
2 - new OS to fix camera
3 - ?

Is the new .52 any faster than that slow-assed .37?

I would hope that RIM knows the problem with the camera, and has plans to fixit.

Hey Mods, whyizzit that it is OK to discuss these beta OS in detail here on the forum, but such a henious crime to tell people how easily they can find where to download it? I mean sheesh, I found .52 in about 5 minutes of searching. It seems inconsistent.
