So I bought the BB for the ability to install medical programs and such for work. My PPC had died so I decided to consolidate from a phone and PPC to just one. I do not want nor need a data plan. When I purchased the phone Verizon never stated to me I "have to have it.", nor did they explain to me they would change my contract, nor did I sign a contract upgrading my service. After getting off the phone a few minutes ago with Verizon customer service they tell me I "Have to have a data plan or the phone won't update". Well I don't care if it updates or not, but I can use my BB software on my desktop to do that could I not? I have the Mobile Network option turned off because like I said, I don't need it, and for the last 30 days the phone has worked without a hitch. I need some basis for backup because I feel Verizon failed to explain to me I "Have" to have a data plan, and I feel they're charging me unneccisarily and unfairly. What happened to the days Verizon cared for their customers, or anyone cared for their customers for that sake?

Actually you have to have a plan or you cant use the BB at all. Return the device or demand to get out of your contract is all you can do.

When I picked up my BB earlier this year I was told that it had to have a plan to be used as BB the company required it. They said anything other than BB you could use the phone and not upgrade to a data plan. I didn't have the money for a PALM phone as I really only spent $50 using all the available rebates at the time to get my BB. Thinking about it now if I had just purchsed a PALM I would be saving money in the long run.

($30/month x 24 months)

PALM 700wx phone = $400
(With rebates you could bring it down $100+)

Total Savings Lost = $450-550
