Question My 8310 and it's mental overnight reboots? - 07-08-2008, 04:13 AM

I have a new 8110, and it is doing something very odd.

It seems to restart itself overnight or something. Every morning, the BB is prompting me for my SIM PIN code. Once entered, the device starts up and works OK.

I do not have the Auto On/Off settings enabled, they are ALL disabled.

Any ideas why it might be doing this?!

Does the device restart during the day at all? or is it only when not in use? If you have a password set and the device set with a security timeout, try disabling both of those and see if it does it again. Also the SIM PIN itself can be disabled if you have a device password.

We have two of these, both same software release, both doing it. They seem to turn off overnight. I just checked my BB (which has been in my bag since this morning) and it was sitting on the PIN code prompt - so they seem to do it at any period of non-usage.

I cannot disable the password and/or timeout at the moment, need to get authorisation to remove myself from company IT Policy first. At the moment, I will leave the SIM PIN prompt on, to try and get some idea of how often it is rebooting.

Thanks for the reply...

Have you tried updating the software on the device. I believe 4.5.0.37 is the newest software for the 8110.

p.s. if there is a mod about, pls change thread title. It's an 8110, not an 8310.

Hmmmm...
The latest software available from t-mobile 4.2.2 - any ideas how I could roll back to the pre installed 4.3.x if this upgrade goes wonky? Searched loads of places, can't find a 4.3.x for 8110.

Sorry for all the questions.

Hmmmm

FYI

I have not changed the software on the phone. Instead, I stripped off the SameTime client (made by RIM) which was only thing I had added to device.

It has not rebooted since....

Just had a new 8310 doing the same thing, so have removed v2.0.25 of SameTime client (made by RIM) from that device too, and will let you know whether it "fixes" the reboots.
