OS: 4.5.0.52
Carrier: AT&T
Default OS: 8110 4.5.0.62/4.5.0.44 (MultiLanguage) - 07-14-2008, 11:56 AM

Latest 8110 OS: 4.5.0.62/4.5.0.44
This OS will load on any carrier's 8110 model as long the user follows the instructions below exactly as written.

Package Version: 4.5.0.62
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.44
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.61
* File name: 8110M_rel62_PL2.7.0.61_A4.5.0.44.exe
* File size: 87MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Click here to download:
http://a1.net/downloadcenter/8110M_r..._A4.5.0.44.exe

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

Previous OS version located HERE:

What's the update? If the install completed, and you got a completed or finished message from your PC App Loader, and a blank screen continues, remove the battery for a minute and replace to reboot.

If still nothing, you are likely in need of using Jl_cmder to wipe and restore the OS.

Any successful installs yet? I'm curious if this one is better than the last one. I had issues with standby not working, very slow operation, and the phone doing a full power off at random times.

I know 4.5 should be out by AT&T in just a few months but I can't resist when it comes out early, even if it's beta.

It works, its stable as far as I'm concerned. Just a few themes I've loaded don't match up in the full menu, up top by the headers. The bphone theme stayed the same throughout everything. That free pacman app along with other java programs such as pool and bowling work fine. I've had this installed since i made my last post a few posts up.

Its a lot faster than the other release from vodafone that i loaded, way too slow. Don't have a data plan to test the browser so that doesn't concern me. And so far I haven't gotten that error with a media card formatted in 4.3 or whatever, its a media card i used from my parts 8100 that I made into paper weight. I had problems from the 4.3 8110 media card, gave me errors, but this one hasn't so far.

There a guide to formatting the media cards in 4.5?

Updated mine, but when I leave it unattended for about a minute the phone locks up, the only key that works is the "alt" key. You have to then take out the battery and restart the device. I tried disabling all wireless, setting time, turning on and off content protection all with no success. looks like I will be downgrading.

Check the apps that DM backed up and reloaded. Could cause you a problem, I have had no issues.

Post Seems ok on my 8110 - 07-23-2008, 01:22 AM

Installed cleanly (I did not backup the device has I have BES). No hastles so far and it is noticibly quicker than the vodafone version.

I loaded all the themes too, by editing the blackberry.alx file, and they all seem OK. Device activated against BES without a hiccup.

Found the issue....after downgrading several times and wiping with the JL, I finally take out the micro SD and it works great! Now all I have to do is offload my data from it, format in phone and it should work. All in all I guess this is why I am the blackberry guy here, haha. I should have known to format the card in the phone…duh

Yeah, lots of issues with media cards. A reformat and sometimes removal of some corrupted or incompatible files is in order.

Default New 8110 owner - Upgrade OS??? - 07-23-2008, 12:22 PM

Hello All,

I have had my 8110 (first BB product) for about 3 weeks now and like it quite a bit except for some buzzing (distortion) in the earpiece at times depending on the volume of the voice on the other end of the call. I have listened to other 8110s and hear the same thing.

I am wondering about the benefit of upgrading to the new OS - I have 4.3.0.93 on my phone. I can see from previous posts that there is an improvement to the browser but I don't have a data plan. Someone else said that the new OS is more efficient (faster)??

I also have an 8gb MicroSD installed that is functioning well so far as my mp3 storage. Most ATT store employes have told me that the 8110 does not support 8gb but forum postings indicated support w F/W version 4.3 or above so I went for it. So far so good!

Is there a compelling reason to upgrade to v4.5??

Thank you in advance for any responses,

Barry
