Question 8110 or 8120 - 07-21-2008, 04:49 AM

Hi

I am in the process of getting a new BlackBerry, looking at either the 8110 or 8120 with O2 UK.

Which one is the more recent version?
Any suggestions which one is better in terms of functionality?

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (off to see the wizard)

Do you want wifi or GPS? That is the difference between the two

8110 has GPS
8120 has wifi

wifi would be a better option. Which one is more newer out of the two?

They are the same age.
Both are the most recent 81xx for GSM carriers.

Do you know roughly how old each one is? 4 months?

The biggest decision is, if you want both GPS and WiFi, you can add GPS to the 8120 by buying a Bluetooth puck, but there's no way to add WiFi to an 8110

I have no use for WiFi in a phone so the 8110 gets my vote.

Is it possible to add multiple e-mail accounts on both?

I have the 8120 and never use the wifi, there just never seems to be a reason, my sister has a new curve with the GPS and I had a play and it's super useful. Much easier to use than google maps which is my only option with the pearl as I don't want to bulk it up with an extra dongle.

The Freedom Keychain 2000 isn't exactly what you'd call a bulky dongle though. I personally find the wifi option quite useful, speeds up internet browsing and now that Opera Mini can use wifi it's a definite plus imho

8120 makes more sense to me.
Useful if you do not have unlimited data plan.
Useful to avoid roaming data charges (just use your hotel's or coffee shop's wifi).
Allows you to use services like Skype (pay 2 cents per minute rather than roaming and/or long distance charges).

I use a external bluetooth GPS the rare times I need to use GPS on my phone. I would never substitute my automobile's GPS for one on a phone.
