Honesty I haven't noticed a differnce. I use Suretype for most stuff. It requires multitap for passwords etc and seems to be app or screen specfic.

The built in spell check, if you don't have any other is worth the upgrade. It also has a better word anticipation process than 4.2.

At first I just had red because of the message notifications. I thought it might have something to do with the coverage indicator (normally off) so I turned it on to see what it did and it turned the led to solid green. It switches back to red when I get another message. I have pulled the battery a few times and it still does this. Is this happening to anyone else?
My led indicator hasn't changed for me. I get a red flashing on new emails and missed calls and calendar reminders. Unlike 4.2 the flashing red turns back to flashing green after a few minutes rather than staying a flashing red forever. I prefer this. I know others don't though.

I decided to wipe out the BB and wiped it out using a 2005 version javaloader.
After that I had to fiddle with the App error 507 couple of hours and although I installed the latest Desktop manager and device software version 4.5 the BB never recognised the same when I tried to load the application.
Finally in vain I downgraded my software to the old ATT 4.2 version by downloading its Device manager and Software. The ATT apploader recognised that I had some upgraded files in my system still.. neverthless asked for an erase and complete install.
Now I have an old version (4.3 ) OS installed and unable to upgrade it to 4.5

Can anyone please help me? Also is there any way to view the pre loaded videos on your PC (net_rim_bb_medialoader_video.alx)?
You should uninstall the older OS's from your PC before installing the new OS. The DM should then recognize the need to upgrade.

That how it is designed to work.

the problem is when the led stays on constant. This is caused by a conflict with the "ColorPearl" application. It can be fixed by removing ColorPearl.

Not true. I would leave the older OS so that you can revert back to it easily should problems arise. There is no need to remove older OS's. I usually have two or three (sometimes more) older OS's loaded on my PC. Desktop Manager will load the newest OS if the vendor.xml file is deleted.

I tried all those ... uninstalling older os and also deleting vendor.xml. It just doesnt work.

The next that I did was copied all the files in loader 4.5 folder to ATT 4.2 folder... now the OS is recognised.. and its updating.

OMG! Tell me you didn't!

You obviously missed a step somewhere. The only reason a BB won't update is if the OS is the wrong OS (i.e. 8110 OS trying to load to an 8100) or if the vendor.xml file is still there.

Moving the 4.5 files into the 4.2 folder will load the 4.5 OS with the 4.2 platform files. This will likely brick your device. Hopefully JL_Cmder will be able to recover it but it can be extremely difficult sometimes.

Only one other thread actually. I posted it because the user's above experience differed from mine. (My card was not killed.) He duplicated his post in the Beta forum so I followed in case people would miss my reply. I just wanted users to get more info than what he had (as my card was not killed).

Never meant to upset the apple cart. Sorry.

But in the RIM folder the 4.2 and 4.5 are different folders ... the rest are all shared .. tat is 4.2 and 4.5 files use common Apploader and USB driver folders likewise .. isn't it

Also not all files of 4.5 are 4.5 versions.. they are supported by 4.3 and other files. only the core files are 4.5

All the files in 4.5 are 4.5 files. The platform files are different. Moving folders around to load an OS is dangerous. If you haven't started this yet, I urge you not to.
