Hi Guys,

I am noob, I have BB8100 pearl. All I can do is use the phone to make calls and messages.But now I want to connect the blackberry to my home Wi-fi. I have checked options in it
1) Data service" is "on"
2)Network:02-UK
3) Network selection mode: Automatic

When click "menu" and "my preferred Network" I get a whole list of all service providers like 02, T-mobile, Wind telecom and many more with some numbers which I see as 208/28 , 272/7 etc.

Again from this page when I click "menu" and select "Add Network" and "Select from available" it scans for available and give me again 02-UK, Orange, T-mobile and vodafone UK along with MMC and MNC numbers .

I wonder how can I connect to wi-fi network at home or office, and when it scans why can I see my wireless network of home. Can somebody please tell me how to connect this to my network.

Also in the main page at the top shows date ,time and "Data connection refused" along with "edge"

But I can make phone calls and recieve even in this mode.So can somebody suggest me, how can I use internet from my home wifi and phone service of 02 parallely.

8100 does not have WiFi. You need a 8120.

The Data Connection Refused message means that either you do not have a Blackberry data plan or the data plan you do have is not set up correctly by your provider. If you are paying for the data plan, call your provider. If you're not paying for the data plan, then no worries your phone is working as intended.

The 8100 does not have WiFi. The list you are seeing is mobile operators. You would need the 8120 as stated above.

So I cant browse on my mobile, leave it. As you guys know all about 8100 can you tell me what are the advantages of it and what is the OS which there are many links here.What are those used for. I want to play with mobile and do something, I know this is stupid.

Give me sometips of it.

You could browse if you had a data plan through your carrier.

With respect to the OS references the latest one in the sticky pa OS 4.5.xxx.55. And can be downloaded from the links in the thread.

If you follow the posts you can see the advantages/disadvantages of upgrading and what features you get.

3 or 4 of the notables for the 8100 is resident spellcheck, docs to go and stereo sound, as well as a better media manager.

At the end of the day it is your call.
