Default Newbie with some questions / problems

Hi, I'm brand new to the blackberry world, I got my blackberry less than a week ago, so I have some questions / problems
I know this has been addressed a few times but I can't seem to solve it on my end- about three days after using my blackberry all my texts and call logs dissapeared- so I looked up the forums and did a battery pull. I wasn't able to follow the steps this form puts out to increase memory usage because I use a Mac and therefore can't install the desktop software-
but the battery pull seemed to work, but then, another three days later- the calls and texts disappeared again- I got a call earlier, no idea who it was from, but its not in my call log, etc.
Seeing that this can be problematic... I think I need to figure something out or get a different phone...
my memory is at 8,729,724+ (not sure what it said before battery pull!) I dont see it filling up in three days-
it also says file total: 50,462,720
How much memory does the device come with?
I dont save any emails on my blackberry, I delete them as they come in, I have maybe 4 pictures, i dont have any third party apps, ringtones, or anything downloaded.
I do have contacts in my address book but I'd say its well under 100 contacts... and 2 memos, and about 5 things in my calender.
SOO its not like I'm putting a lot on the phone! I'd think itd be able to hold call logs and texts longer than 3 days!

Is it normal to have to do a battery pull every two - three days? Is there something I'm missing here?
I was thinking about getting a memory card but I read that it doesn't do anything for call logs and texts so it doesn't seem like it'll help in this case?

Aside from that- is there a way to automatically delete my emails that come in, unless I chose to save them, or do I have to do that manually when I receive each one?

Is there a way to update the OS with a Mac??

Thanks for any help!

Exclamation

just an update-

I went to the verizon store and asked about the problems and was told that it had nothing to do with memory (the deletion of the texts, call logs...) that it was strictly a software problem- and that Blackberry was working on a patch to fix the problem, but they did not know when it was going to be released and they recommended getting a curve or reg. blackberry rather than the pearl.
I got the impression that the guy didn't know a whole lot about blackberries, and considering he wasn't really willing to help or listen to everything I was trying to say, I went to the verizon booth that I bought the phone from in a circuit city and talked to them- they pretty much said it was the same thing, that it wasn't a memory problem, it was a software problem, but they exchanged my phone for another saying it doesn't happen to every phone and lets see if a new one is better... or looks like I'll, at least, be switching phones.

has anyone heard of Blackberry working on a patch to solve this problem?

Hi

I am not sure about the patch thing but there are a few ways that you can free up memory without using desktop manager.

1) open media folder, open pictures hit menu kay and select options, set reserved pictures memory to 0 or 1 ( mine is set to 2)
2) go to options > advanced options > applications and you can delete any languages or applications you do not use by highlighting them, hitting menu key and selecting delete. I deleted password keeper for example.
3) delete sample video

Low memory is usually the cause of deleted texts and emails etc.

For optium performance keep your memory above 10mb (10.000.000)
