| My roommate is gonna kill me... Please Login to Remove! ...if I can't fix her Pearl. I just downloaded and installed the 4.5 OS found in this forum onto her Pearl. After it was installed, it messed up the phone. It turns on, then resets itself over and over again. For awhile there it was working just fine again, and she was able to get through the setup wizard, then when I plugged it into the computer to restore her settings, it reset itself again. And now thats all it does. I know there is a way to fix this and its been explained before, but I'm in a bit of a hurry with this and my roommate doesn't feel like waiting for me to search this site.
Its a Pearl 8100 with Tmobile.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Thanks in advance!

| If you take it out, and it works...transfer everything from the card to the PC, format it, and copy everything back. | | Offline

| Spoke to soon. I was able to restore all her saved stuff back to the device, and I reformatted the card and everything was working just fine, until the phone asked her to reset it again....which she did and now its back to resetting, coming back on, then resetting again...

| well the way I did it was I copied everything from the media card to the computer, and then wiped the card clean, put it back in the phone, then highlight the files she uses (which are just ringtones and pictures) and put just those back on the card. although, she does have some pictures that are in folders. Don't know if that means anything. Are you saying I have to load each ringtone and picture back onto the phone one at a time? If so, that will suck because she has about 16 megs of ringtones and another 50 megs of pictures...
and because this is my fault I am the only one who gets to redo it all haha
thanks again for your help

| haha, not really one at a time, but I would go and recreate the folders one at a time, and only copy 1 folder at a time. When you make a new folder and add stuff to it to BB automatically creates an "index" if you will. This is the file that is more than likely causing your problem. Make sure you are just copying the pictures and .mp3 files, nothing else. | | Offline

| Wow. this really is a huge pain. I have upgraded my OS twice now, once for my old Pearl, and now to the 4.5 for my Curve and never had any problems whatsoever. Of course this has to mess up when I try to do it for someone else. I am working on reloading everything now and I'll let ya know if its successful.
haha and I always that I was sorta tech savvy... thanks for being patient

| perhaps a rollback to 4.2 will make it all go away (not telling you to give up, just offering the option)

| Yeah I am considering going back to the 4.2 OS but I don't have it installed on my computer and I'm using my Curve as a dialup modem.... I really don't like the idea of sitting here for hours trying to download a 75mb exe file. hopefully this will work.

| I have the media card back in the phone and i plugged it into the computer. it asked me to format the card so I could access it and its doing that now.....and its taking forever. I haven't formatted a card for my blackberry in almost 2 years so I have no idea how long its supposed to take to format the card....

| LOL seriously I don't want her to beat me....I may be a guy but she bigger than me by a good 100 lbs.... don't tell her I told you that haha. And I was the one who got her this Pearl in the first place! its a 2gb card whereas mine is just a 516mb card so maybe thats why it seems strange that its taking awhile. but the phone is still on and hasn't shut back off *knock on wood* so thats good news so far...
