Last night when I turned my phone off (with alarm set to turn it on and go ring at 8:30 this morning) my battery was a little over 50%. The phone turned on this morning and the alarm sounded. I did not look at it other than turning the alarm off, I went to the bank and pulled my phone out of my pocket and it was completely dead. I plugged it into the car charger and a batterry w/ a lightning bolt came up and after a few minutes it turned on and the radio was off and the battery outlined in red, with little to no charge. Is this the battery going bad or a problem with the OS? The phone is now charging on a wall outlet until it is full.

Could it be you left some app or active browser on?

How old is the device/battery?

Got the device in Feb. or March of this year (original battery). Don't think I left any apps. running, my normal apps running are home, call log, browser, and messages.

First determine if the charger is at fault. See if you get different results with car versus wall versus USB charging.

Also try jiggling the connection to see if the connector might be intermittent.

Check the date code on the battery - I think it's a letter, a 2-digit year code, a 2-digit month code and a week-sequence code but I could be wrong - and see if the battery is as new as you think.

Charged fine on the wall charger and is still at 95%, so all is good w/ the charger, the port seems to be solid still, no movement. Battery is from March 07. EDIT: I bought phone NIB from T-Mobile.

strike, you can always pull the battery, reboot, to kill all running process, ... just in case.

Yea, I think it was just a hiccup, it has been fine ever since the recharge this morning. I do have another question though, when I have the alarm set and then go to turn the phone off (power icon on home screen) 4.5 gives me 2 options: 1. turn off and 2. full power off. what's the difference?
