So today my 8130 slipped out of it's case and fell about 2 feet and landed right on the top (the mute button area). Since then it's dead.

When I plug it in, the red light comes on for about 5 seconds. Then goes out for 5 seconds. Then comes on for 5 seconds. I tried to plug it into the computer and it recognizes it for a second, then nothing, then picks it up, then nothing. Anybody experience this? Am I SOL?

I'm guessing maybe it's just not reliably connected to power anymore? Under battery power it just won't do anything.

My girlfriend threw hers down a flight of stairs onto wood flooring, dropped it on concrete a couple of times, etc. and still works fine.

Mine is pretty indestructible. I've quite literally thrown it across a room into a wall, (bad situation) and it continues to work perfectly. I've dropped it, stepped on it, and yet it continues to behave for me..

If it would finally break, I would have a reason to get a Curve. ;)

have you left the battery out of it for awhile?

I had the exact same thing happen to me last week. It landed right on the top near the mute button and initially wouldn't boot or connect to the PC. To this day if I shake the phone I can hear that somethings loose inside. I pulled the battery and wiped the device with Jl_Cmder, which did work. Then I left it connected, with the battery removed, and fired up the desktop manager and opened the application loader. I chose my BB's pin from the dropdown list and reloaded the OS. It failed twice but was finally successful on the third try. Make sure to reinstall your battery while the application loader is waiting for the device to reinitialize, I think the reason my first two attempts failed was because I didn't do this. I though that my phone was dead for sure. Good thing I'm a tinkerer. Good luck.

PS. ever since the reload, my battery life has been terrible. I only get about one day out of it. I lose about 50% over night

Sounds like a oem rubber case is a good idea for the next drop.

I thought about a rubber case after my drop. I use the BB holster with the sleep magnets so I wasn't sure that they would work together. My drop happened because I forgot that I had my phone on my lap, connected to my PC, rearranging the media on my a SD Card. It would otherwise always be in the holster. My luck.

So I put the battery in, connected it to the computer and left it. After about an hour it was doing a slow flash with the red light so I tried and it fired up. All the data seems to be there, which is good. It works, which is good. But it occaisionally will just power right off in mid stream, which annoys me.

I guess I'll just keep kibitzing with it.

Mine was also powering off before I did the wipe and restore. If you haven't already, give it a try. Jl_Cmder is available through these fine forums and let app loader in the DM do the rest. Maybe after the restore, the BB is smart enough to compensate for whatever problem that the drop caused. I know that's kind of far fetched but I can't come up with any other reason why my BB is working again.

Your phones USB port has a cold solder joint. Could be shorting out...

If I thought it would be worth it I would have it serviced. But at this point I just want it to last until i can get a Bold or Javelin.

yeah, keep a charger in the car and at work...suffer for a month or so

I have to keep mine on a charger, mid day, and I dont even have a short..lol

So it seems I've massaged it back to 100% health. With a couple of planned resets it has behaved for 24 hours straight. It would seem the phone just had a concussion!

It seems that my power consumption problem has revealed itself. After the drop, the battery door button came loose. If the back cover is on it stayed in fine but would occasionally pop up at the right edge.

Yesterday I was going to remove my micro SD card, since it was recently installed on the same day as the drop, as a troubleshooting measure. When I pressed the door release button I felt a shock. So, like Bart Simpson I did it again and again and again to make sure the it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't a fluke. If I maintained contact I could feel the current flow through my whole body. Somehow the battery door button was causing a short. I assume it has to do with the charging contacts next to it but I'm not sure. Anyone who would like to shed some light on that one, feel free.

Result. Yesterday was my day off therefore I hardly used the phone all day and it was in low power mode (no radio) by 8pm. Today, as usual on work days, I woke up at 4am and the phone was off of the charger by 5am. It is now after 7pm and, according to the BB's status screen, the phone has 65% remaining. This means that I will get my customary 2.5 to 3 days of battery life sans button. I love it when problems fix themselves.
