Default Bluetooth/Cordless phone question

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, I may have a real stumper here but I'm hoping somebody can give me some clues on what is happening. I recently bought an AT&T cordless phone that is supposed to let you use your cell phone service to make and receive calls using the cordless phone handset instead of your actual cell phone. It is bluetooth enabled and I have paired my Blackberry Pearl with the cordless phone successfully.

There is a button on the cordless phone called "cellular" that when you push that button I should be able to make a call from that handset but using my cell phone service. When I try to place a call, however, there is one ring and then I get the message, "you have reached a non working number".

Now here is where the mystery comes in. I can answer calls to my cell phone using the cordless handset and the call goes thru and everything is fine. Any ideas why I can receive calls but not place them?

I know this might be clear as mud but hopefully someone will get the gist of what I'm trying to say here and give me some clues. Thanks

Could just be an incompatiblity between the BB's bluetooth and the phone you bought. If you could post the actual phone you purchased, someone might be able to help out.

Could it be an incompatibility if I can receive calls using it but not place them? But anyway, it's the AT&T Cordless phone, model EP5632 with Bluetooth wireless technology. Thanks for the quick response.

Just FYI, I placed a long distance call from the cordless handset using my cell phone service and the call went thru so it dawned on me that maybe when trying to make a local call I also had to dial the area code first and that worked, the local call went thru. Don't know why I would have to do that but I got it working. In case anybody else ever has this setup hopefully they can avoid this problem.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

That makes sense. It is generally required now to dial 1 + area code now even for local calls on a cell phone.
