After loading 4.5 and Documents To Go you won't get Sheet To Go until you register and do the free update. After that, you'll want to delete the DocumentsToGo.alx file in your OS directory so that the application loader doesn't "downgrade" it back to the previous version.

I think I’m doing something wrong. I downloaded the 8130 version to my desktop, and ran it. However, it doesn’t seem to be installing. All I see is a black dos-like window and the white-underline cursor keeps flashing around the screen. Its been running for about 20 min. I have desktop manager open, and my phone plugged in. I already deleted my vendor file. Help please!

So even with 4.5 key tone still don't turn off.
So far 4.5 seems good, except for the problem I have had with syncing up with my BES...

upgraded to the 4.5.0.56 operating system couple of days ago, I don't know if its just MSN MESSENGER, but I've been having a ton of problems with it ever since I upgraded the os. Its always been "unable to send messages due to a connection error" or "a problem occured, please try again later".

You may have to go and set the permissions for your third party apps again. I had to do that after upgrading to the new OS, and then everything works fine again.

Default Browser - 08-13-2008, 07:12 PM

Have the new 4.5.0.56 OS. The browser still is not good for a website that has pdf files. It cannot open the files and it cannot download them. The same is still true for xls. files. So this upgrade does give html email, but nothing seems to have been imporved in the browser. I have to use Opera Mini to download the pdf and xls files and then open them locally on my 8130. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip John.

Just curious: Is this specific to Docs to Go or any app you first load via DM and later update via OTA download?

I agree. Pearl seems to be running faster. I think I have more free memory, even with DTG installed. Thx guys!

Thx John. Quick question though. After deleting the DocsToGo.alx file, am I supposed to hook back up to DM for any reason? Is DM going to create a newer DocsToGo.alx with the updated version, or will DM want to remove DocsToGo if there is no .alx file?

Thx

No, you don't need to connect again. However, if you do, DM will treat Docs To Go as a wirelessly downloaded app and will recognize it and not downgrade it. If you install a new OS, delete the Docs To Go.alx again so that it doesn't dowgrade Docs To Go during the upgrade process.

Default video camera - 08-14-2008, 10:16 AM

some good news...with this new 4.5 - we are back to getting about 14 to 15 fps using the video recorder. we haven't seen that quality since the original verizon .60 version on 4.3

I got a 507 when it tried to reboot. It turns out that it's bad to have your laptop docked and the USB connected through that dock when connecting a BlackBerry. Knowing that could have saved me a few 507s in the past!

Upgrading to 4.5 now to kill the 507.

I used Desktop Manager 4.6 and OS 4.5 from the link mentioned in the first post, for my 8130 on Verizon and I got a nasty 507 error and I had to revert back to 4.3. Anyone else have this problem?

I managed to get 4.5.0.56 onto the phone, but after doing so, I can no longer connect to the phone with DM.

I started the installation and walked away for a while. When I came back, the phone was at the setup wizard and DM was hung up on the "reconnect to the JVM" status bar. After I realized it was never going to move, I just killed DM and disconnected the phone. All my data is there, and I verified that it is the new OS.

Since then, when I plug in the phone, DM recognizes it--the PIN pops up and indicates that it's connected. However, once DM recognizes the phone, it still prompts me to complete the upgrade, and when I tell it to start, it immediately dies on "connect to the JVM." If I try to do a backup, it crashes. If I try to start the app loader, it crashes.

So, long story short, it appears that the 4.5.0.56 upgrade came at the expense of any future use of DM. I assume that any future upgrades/downgrades will at this point require a wipe of the handheld, to make it connect again?

Anyone else have this combination going on?

I upgraded my 8130 today and all went without any problems. Much nicer than the 4.3 I was running.

Will there be a difference between the version at the link and the one Verizon will eventually post on their web site?

Yes, it supports Excel. You need to open Docs To Go and then register. Then you'll be able to do a free upgrade. Once you've upgraded you don't want to reconnect to Application Loader in Desktop Manager until you delete the DocumentsToGo.alx file. If you don't delete that file you will "downgrade" Documents To Go the next time you run application loader.

If I go into the about section on my BB the info it says v4.3.0.97(Platform3.1.0.51) I am guessing from reading this post that I am way behind on software for my pearl?

You can upgrade with the OS referred to in the first post, if you like.

I've done the free upgrade, RIM should do something about the premium issue, and let DocsToGo premium features be free for everyone...its stalling now.

Also, how do you delete the docstogo.alx so it doesn't downgrade if you open app loader? from where do you delete the .alx? thx

The DocumentsToGo.alx is located in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8xxx-v4.5.0.xx_Px.x.x.xx
