Uh oh...if not an odd server glitch, then maybe somethings wrong w/the release, and they've pulled it. Hope my Pearl doesn't explode...

Default Outgoing SMS doesn't work. - 08-26-2008, 10:29 AM

I installed 4.5 on my VZW 8130 w/o any problems and everything seems to work except outgoing SMS. I've tried everything I can think of, but no matter what I do I always get a delivery failure on SMS messages.

Ok, I'm going around and around here.

When I click the first link at the beginning of the thread it only gives me the option to download DM 4.5, which I already have...I'm reading all sorts of threads on multiple sites, but I can't figure out what to do. Please take pity!

EDIT: Ok, I'm a real dork. I see now that the top of this very page(!) lists that I'm not the only one having this trouble.

Is anyone able to download the 4.5? The link is taking me to MTS Mobility, but only gives me the option of downloading DM 4.5. I want my 4.5!!

Edit:
Doh, guy above me posted at the same time. I am getting proxy server errors, but resubmitting a couple of times and it loads.

I downloaded the MTS 4.5 update ~1 week ago without problems and installed it on my Sprint 8130. For me, the 4.5 upgrade has been a real improvement.

I'm getting html emails through BIS and BES (guess our corp guys upgraded the server)
My BB alerts program is working now with SMS alerts and voice-mail alerts. It didn't work properly under 4.3
My voice-dialer works with my dodge uconnect kit. When I hit the button, I voice dial thru the phone and then it connects the audio through Uconnect after the call is established. Nice.
Lots of little improvements to some of the apps (like showing availability in the calendar scheduling menu).

Overall performance seems a little snappier too, although that may just be wishful thinking on my part. SO -- so far so good. No problems and definitely some improvements.

Well, I found a download site for the .66, and now it's working quite well. I was surprised to see that Options -> Status now lumps the device and card memory together. I don't know that I like that. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper so far (but give me a week or two!).

I changed the first post to reflect the new carrier download. Good find, folks! Sure would like to know why the MTS download was removed.

Mine isn't doing that. The only difference I've noticed on the Status screen is now it only shows Free Space, instead of Free Space and Total Space.

Here's a quirkly little problem I have run across.

I create and often use "groups" in my address book for multiple distributions of emails. Since they don't synch to Outlook, they are obviously created from within the BB address book.

If I enter a group in the first "To" line - everything OK

If I enter a second group in the second "To" line it duplicates what I have typed (from the "auto" search address book feature) into the "cc" line right below it.

Weird! Not life threatening but a little annoying.

Anyone noticed reduced volume with this OS via bluetooth or speaker? Other than that, I really have no complaints -- too bad it seems there are issues with the download, the HTML e-mail is friggin great!

Question send using? - 08-28-2008, 09:26 PM

I have been running 4.5 on my 8130 for approximately 2 weeks. For the most part I have only noted improvements. Today I attempted to reply to an email however I wanted to change the "send using" address but the only address available was the address that received the message. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a bug or a new "feature"?

Hmmm...I could have sworn that 4.3 on the Pearl allowed you to change it if you wanted to. Maybe a bug in 4.5 if I'm remembering correctly how 4.3 worked...

I've had 4.5 installed for about 2 weeks now and everything has been working great. Last night I tried to play brick breaker, and during the first life the phone shuts off and reboots. I tried this five more times even after a battery pull with the same results. After just a few seconds of the game the phone shuts off. Anyone else have this problem or a solution? I'm running .56

Thanks

Heres a quick rundown of 4.5 so far, based on everyones input.

Visual Changes

Media player has 4 buttons instead of two.

Text messages. Unread SMS and MMS messages now have a yellow envelope, instead of bolding the unread message.

Bullets added to SMS conversations.

Confirmed positives about 4.5

- HTML emails.

- Many users are reporting snappier performance

- Video camera performance is increased.

- Docs 2 go, standard version is included.

- Buttons added to Media Player

Potential negatives / bugs

- HTML email is buggy for some users.

- When using the media player, if you receive a text message, you must manually resume play. This goes for BB Messenger as well.

- Using the BB Dimension Today Plus theme, icon layout isn't saved if phone is restarted

- "When using headphone jack into aux port on car stereo, when phone call is received, it does not automatically activate the headset profile, which should pipe the audio thru my stereo. Activate headset must be done manually."

- Roaming only option is gone with Sprint

- In options>status, there is no longer a file available and total, only available.

- Ability to create different colored folders is gone.

- Voice search feature with Google Maps does not work.

- The "fill screen" option when viewing pictures your media folder, is gone.

- Pre-loaded wallpapers are gone.

i went from 4.3.0.127 to 4.5 and definitely was able to change the send using field when composing a reply. is it just me or shouldn't that be an obvious feature to keep?

Also...about 2 or 3 posts above this one, a user mentioned his phone randomly rebooting itself when he was playing brickbreaker. My phone has reboot itself about 4-5 times now, but only while the phone is in bluetooth "Modem Mode". I pair my phone to my pc, and use the bluetooth software to "dial-up" to the net through my phone. Never had a problem before the OS install.

Between the OS upgrade and this problem starting, was a period of about a week. Right before the reboot problem, I installed 2 themes that I made with Plazmic. I tested both themes thoroughly with the simulator, and then with my phone, and found no problems. I don't see why the themes would have anything to do with this, but I figured it was worth mentioning. I didn't change or install anything else in that time.

3rd party themes often cause unexplained issues.

Here is another little quirky issue.
I am using 4.5 on my 8130.

I have the phone's LED coverage indicator set to on. So that it flashes green most of the time, it turns red when I get an email and blue when I am connected to Bluetooth. So far so good everything working as it should.

I also have my BB set up to turn on and off at prescribed times.

Now here is the little quirk. When my BB turns on automatically the LED doesn't come on until I get an emai and then it works fine again.

so im having an issue with my themes...

after i updated to 4.5 i was using the mac osx leopard zen theme and everthing worked fine

but after i changed to my next zen theme, when i press the blackberry button and bring up all my icons the wallpaper is all messed up. its like it is half of the dimension theme. like where the icons are it is the default wallpaper for the dimension theme and the clock, date, and 1xev icons are different.

anyone know whats wrong with my themes? did they become corrupt when i updated? i reinstalled the precision 9000 zen theme but its still the same problem so i really dont know what to do

Some themes not specifically developed for 4.5 can cause unanticipated results.

is 4.5 really that different? why did they change the way themes work?

i heard people talking about new themes for 4.5 but what do they mean? can you get like better themes now? i downloaded 3 today for 4.5 and they seem really sick but they are only for 4.5. why cant a 4.2 user use them? im just curious

They didn't specifically change the way themes work. The OS was rewritten, thus making some fo the theme coding incompatible. Kinda like when you buy a new car, the old accessories won't work on the new car.

Well after another week, here's my updated story with 4.5...

I noticed today that when I wanted to attach a file to e-mail, and went to menu>attach file>media card>blackberry>pictures...it shows full file names now, instead of partial file names, which is a nice change.

One time my coverage indicator light wasn't doing anything at all, when I knew it was supposed to be on. I turned it off and back on, started flashing normally. This was the first and last time for this issue, not sure what caused it.

Within 48 hours of installing two themes I made(and tested), my phone rebooted by itself like 4 times...but only while in bluetooth modem mode. About a week went by without this happening, then it happened again a few minutes ago. I'll delete my 2 themes, do a battery pull...and see if it continues to happen after that.

With the HTML e-mail stuff...haven't really noticed too much, except that attached pictures sent to me now have icons next to them and show in the body of the e-mail instead of above it. The pictures themselves didn't show, just their file names.

The preloaded pictures folder still exists, but with nothing in it. My phone/computer OCD really wants me to delete that folder because it no longer has any reason to be there.

My free memory jumps around constantly. For the first week or two it stayed around 19mb, then went down to 18mb, bounced around from 14-18mb, now staying steady at 16mb. Nothing was installed or changed...so I'm not sure what the deal is behind my memory being so crazy.

Whenever I turn on my phone...it does 4-5 different data transfers within the first 2ish minutes of being turned on. In this time, any action I perform, even moving the cursor, is delayed until the data transfer is finished. I don't recall this happening prior to the OS upgrade.

My battery seems to have about 50-75% of the life it had before the OS upgrade, but this could be a coincidence and my battery is actually just slowly crapping out on me. I don't use my phone much at all, and it's always turned off while I sleep...which is about 8 hours. When it's on, it's locked and in my pocket, and I make sure no programs are running. I try not to charge until battery is dead, I'm told this helps to extend battery life.

Anything I use that needs to send/receive data...bbweather, jivetalk, gmail and default browser...tend to error on me 7 out of 10 times I try to use them, errors claiming I don't have an available data connection. My reception didn't visually change, still about 2-3 bars 1X in my home...but that doesn't seem to suffice anymore for these apps. Bluetooth modem mode, aka online with my pc...seems to work fine, still getting same net speeds this way and haven't been booted or anything. When I'm somewhere in town, 1XEV reception...everything works fine.

I'll post any more findings when/if I come across them. This OS version seems to be surprising me every week with new stuff, mostly things that aren't so good.

Angry 4.5 sync issue - 09-06-2008, 08:47 PM

My 4.5 upgrade went smoothly with no problems for the last week until I tried to sync my Outlook contacts to my Verizon 8130 using Desktop 4.5. It read my device contacts and my Outlook contacts noting the changes, but then it quit without updating my BB. I only update via cable and the Desktop. I "downgraded" back to 4.3 and then the contacts properly sync'd. Thoughts? Thanks.

Default brickbreaker error - 09-11-2008, 09:00 AM

I too had trouble with brickbreaker causing a reboot when played. I found if you select "mute" under options it works fine. I assume this is a sound card compatibility issue with 4.5.

I have noticed slightly reduced battery life with 4.5

The glitches with recurring apointments of more than one day when syncing with Outlook has be fixed with 4.5

Anyone know where i can get the beta 4.6 to try?

Leave it. Let it go. It can sit there like that for up to 30 minutes.
