Default Latest OS: 8120 4.5.0.81/4.5.0.55 (English + East Asian Languages) - 08-22-2008, 12:39 AM

From IndoSat but will work on any 8120 from any carrier

Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8120 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.81 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.81
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.55
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.68
  • File name: 8120EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel81_PL2.7.0.68_A4.5.0.55_I ndosat.exe
  • File size: 78.36MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B53786A2C5FA09

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8120:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If you need Desktop Manager download it here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device

To find the previous OS for this device: Click here

Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.

Read through some of the older .55 OS threads for other devices like the 8100 or 8110 for answers to that.

Oh, I need chinese support which it is not in .69 beta yet. so I have to get the .55 chinese cod file and combine them with other .69 cod. I know it sounds so complicated

I would like to know if the UMA is working as well. I just lost my 8100 and upgraded to an 8120 and I'm really digging the UMA.

I answered my own question. Bit the bullet and upgraded to 4.5.0.81 and all is well. UMA works great and much better battery life than my iPhone 3G!

Doesn't seem to connect to my preferred wireless networks automatically though. Anyone else have that issue?

So far so good. Version .52 worked great everywhere. Even while in Mexico. I'll see how version .55 does. Only thing I have noticed so far is 13mb free as opposed to 1-2mb free.

i did the update early this morning. I dont think it was worth it. Im not seeingmuch of a difference at all. So far, only thing i notice for the 8120 is that the record/stop button looks different with a red dot. I did it though to see if msn messenger would work on it, so far the anser is no as i think im missing some service book stuff, which i dont know where to find.

I wouldn't think you would see anything visual obivous as opposed to previous 4.5.x.xxx releases. Just bug fixes.

I did notice (though I never looked before) that I can now use my coworkers 8130, 8310, 8800 and 8110 GPSs through bluetooth on my 8120.

You won't always see the changes from one OS to the next. With the small incremental updates it's mostly bug fixes and no new features. New features come in upgrades from 4.5.0.xx to 4.5.1.xx or 4.6.x.xx, etc. However, it's recommended to upgrade as there may be small things that you don't notice right away.

Can anyone comment on comparison to .52, or .69?

I know that .69 was buggy for me and my voicemail prompt was jibberish, also, my reception was terrible, so i reverted back to .52

I am considering updating later when i get home, but would like to know if anyone has already installed this update

thanks

.69 has been the best OS RIM has put out in a long time. If you didn't like it then I don't know why you'd like any of the others.

i've never seen that warning before. the one that says after upgrade you have to activate your BB wirelessly, to continue getting messages and services.

here's hoping my phone works after this :|

That warning is for BES usuers. BES users have to reactivate on their BES in order to get emails and sync again. BIS users need only resend their service books.
