| Help, strange little icon Please Login to Remove! I'm a newbie and I'm about to throw the damn phone out the window. I just spend an hour at the Verizon store, then another 1/2 hour on the phone with a tech, and neither can help me. Today, out of the blue, a strange, tiny icon appeared right below the battery symbol, right above the top row of icons. it looks like a white rectangle with 2 round dots, like a while domino piece. My phone can't receive text messages and the history keeps deleting itself.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated. It may save the life of my phone, as I may decide not to run it over with a truck. | | Offline

| That icon sounds an awful lot like the voicemail icon I get on mine.

Have you taken any pictures?? | I've taken about 7 pictures and I have no idea if it has a memory card. I've had it for less than 2 weeks. | | Offline

| Any way you can take a screen pic of it? Search for BBScreen - very easy to use to take screen pics of your device. Maybe if we can see it we can tell you what it is.
To check your file free, click on the Options icon, then click on Status. Post the File Free number here.

With respect to the icon thingy it may be an email notification or a text message or a missed call.
Go to your inbox xnd bring up the menu. Click on view folder and check the various inboxes to see if you have an unread message hiding out in there.
Also check your phone log to see is there may be an unanswered call hiding.
Finally open BB messenger to see if someone hasn't tried to add you to their messenger list.
I am not sure I can help with text messages as that is a feature offered through your carrier.
The disappearing history may be a function of how much free memory you have. Go to OpTioNS then STATuS and are how much is there. If it is less than 10 mb this could be the problem. You may want to optimixe your memory as per many threads here. Sorry I can't give you the link as being on WAP isn't friendly to attaching hyperlinks.

| That's 10.7M. Not a horrible amount, and I wouldn't think that would be causing you to lose data....but ya never know.
Here is the link that moonshadow referenced for maximizing the memory on your device: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html
As for the icon.....if you're sure it's not a voicemail icon, what 3rd party applications do you have installed? Maybe its a notification of some sort for one of those.

| i'm just a little stupid and very tired. I googled "strange little blackberry icon" and low & behold, someone posted a picture of the same icon. sure enough, it was a voicemail icon. (which, by the way, is the most ignorant icon for voicemail...) I called my voicemail and my daughter had left me a message. now, before you all laugh and point at me, i had no idea that she called, there was no missed call notification. thank you all for your help, this won't be the only time I ask stupid questions. | | Offline

Glad you finally got an answer. And it won't be the last time any of us will ask "stupid" questions.
Ironically sometimes it is those little simple issues that create the biggest problems and are NEVER obvious!!
Never stop asking questions. Its how we all learn.
