So i'm new to the blackberry game, after a few years of wanting one, i gave up....

i got a pearl (8120 i think it is - it's got wifi) and i've been having a few problems with it, and it's making me hate it, and i really don't want too.

first off, the camera is REALLY bad quality... there's not really any reason for it to be so bad, so why is it? any help would be greatly appreciated!

The other problem i'm having is when i'm on a call - on like, , 80% of calls so far, about 2 minutes into them my call ends, and i get a white screen with an hour glass spinning and that stays on for about 15 minutes... is this normal?

So yeah, i need convincing that i've made the right choice with this phone.

Upgrading the OS could help.
If the BlackBerry is very new I would suggest returning it for another.

How can i see what OS i've got on this?

I would just like to say first Don't give up on the pearl. I just got the 8120 back in May after having the 8100 for awhile and I really love it. You will love it too. You just have to get use to the features. As for the camera and the screen going white and into think mode . I would take it back to the store without a doubt. The camera is actually pretty clear on both of the pearls that I have had. You can check your software that is on your phone by going to the options settings then click on about which is located to the top of the screen. It will then show you what version you have. Good Luck. Also there are alot of BBF members here that will help you with just about anything. They have always guided me in the right direction.

Options, About.

You go to options > about. First line should say "Blackberry 81xx", and the third line should say your OS version and the platform version.

Taking it back sounds like a good deal.
As for the picture quality, I found that simply cleaning the lens helps about 100%. A lot of times, it just collects all kind of stuff in their, like lint (if you carry it in your pocket) and dust. You will also want to check the camera setting, and set it to "fine".
Also remember that, it is just a camera phone, and will not come close to a regular cameras' quality. It's mainly just for those quick, impromptu type of moments.
Good luck with your phone though, and don't get discouraged. All in all, you may just have come across one of those bad ones that eventually gets past quality control. It happens.
