I think apps built with 4.5 jde are backwards compatible to 4.2 but not older than 4.2. That makes your app a winner!

It will do that if there is not a screen programmed to display, it is basically displaying a non-existent screen.

No need to hard reset. Click your red phone End Call button to exit out of the "screen".

I wasn't going to sticky it but since it appears to work on both 4.2 and 4.5....might as well!

SoftReset already works on 4.5; or at least it does on my pearl with 4.5.0.55.

After I installed it, I had to do a battery pull once and it turned red, but didn't show up under options. After a second battery pull it showed up and i was able to change the colors

i LOVE it

Thanks so much George! I've tested you prog Blingball, and I want to ask as if you may make the colored LEDs automatically go off, parallel with keyboard's back light when we use our Pearl under bright environment?

ahh but my pearl gets much slower, because the program stays running.

There should be a way to keep the pearl bright without keeping it run.
Can you figure it out and make it for us..
thank you!

I'm on my Fourth battery pull...

YAY for the program, works amazingly well, except for the fact that my 8100 freezes after 10seconds of running. the only way to fix it is a battery pull. I've never had this problem before... any ideas as to why?

I'm now on my fifth. This time it just loaded the security software and it wouldnt work one bit, doesn't even give me 10 seconds of freedom.... PLEASE HELP!

More details, when you press the ALT key the arrow comes up in the top right hand corner as usual and when you call the phone you get the two blue arrows also in the top right hand corner, but the phone doesnt ring, vibrate, nor does it comes up saying "home phone calling"

What version of the OS are you running? Some have said it works on 4.2 but it's only supported on OS 4.5.

Have you done anything else to the BB? Nobody else has reported any problems with the app.

Awesome work!!! So happy to have thsi feature back. OTA install worked flawlessly and now I have a nifty green pearl. I used random on colorpearl, so that would be my only request for future updates.

I'm OS 4.5.???? I can't remember the rest and can't check obviously. All i did after loading blingpearl was to copy some photos onto the memory card... It's not recognised by the computer so I can't uninstall it. Ive removed the memory card and I'm now on my 7th battery... cross your fingers for me!

I created an account on this forum just so i could download this app.
Nice work.

Just as feedback though, I had to do a batt. pull on my phone to get my pearl to ask me to add blingball as a trusted device. then i had to do a second batt pull to see the blingball options icon in "options."

all is well now though

*insert obligatory "you are the man" comment*

Not sure why it would get "slower".

The application must stay running but simply has what is called a Listener working that waits for the OS to notify that the backlight has turned off or on. If I did not have this two things would happen. The color would be set and stay on until some other application changed it. It would even stay on when the backlight was off or the device was holstered. You could then call it "MagicBatteryDrainer" instead of blingball.

There are functions to take actions when the Backlight goes off or on but this is the screen basically. The keyboard does have some sensor for when the device is in bright light and this lights the keyboard and the white LED under the trackball. There does not appear to be anything that monitors this so I have no way to control or react to it.

Anyone interested in what can or can't be done, i suggest some browsing through the API documentation.

Did the original colorpearl even show up in the switch application list? I don't remember it being there but maybe I just missed it.

well as someone mentioned,
the original colorpearl did not have any effect on the speed of the device.
and it did not show up on the program list

I dunno how he did it, cuz I am not into bb programming.
it would be nice, if you can figure it out

Doesn't work for me. I'm running 8100 with 4.5.0.69. It works when I enter the program and save a color but as soon as the phone goes into standby the color is gone. I tried a reset the phone (battery pull) and it shows the color but as soon as the phone completely loads; the color is gone. All permissions are at allow BTW.
