Default Announcing BlingBall 0.9 beta 2 (8100 ONLY) - 09-03-2008, 11:19 PM

updated version 0.9b2 now available:

Ok here it is. BlingBall 0.9b2.
Code:
BlingBall Changelog

DATE REVISION COMMENTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
08 SEP 2008 0.9b2 added: Disco feature to rotate the trackball color through a pattern.
08 SEP 2008 0.9b2 added: Random feature to change trackball color at each backlight on event.
08 SEP 2008 0.9b2 changed: blingballclass now extends Application instead of UiApplication since no screen exists. This fixes the problem of having it appear in the task switcher.
08 SEP 2008 0.9b2 changed: blingball_autostartup now runs at startup tier 6 to ensure optionsprovider is inserted before the main application runs.
03 SEP 2008 0.9b1 Initial Release
WARNING: This is for the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 with 4.5 OS only. This application is only supported on 4.5 OS. Some have reported that it does, in fact, work in OS 4.2, though. This application will do nothing for you if you have an 8110, 8120, or 8130 as those devices do not have the polychromatic trackball.

NOTICE: This application is beta and has only been tested on a very small number of devices.

The application performs similair functions to that of ColorPearl found here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...8100-only.html

Please provide feedback here.

BTW: Some have expressed interest in compensating me for this. Anyone wanting to donate to the beer fund, have at it but don't feel obligated to do so. I created this for the community and my own personal use.

OTA Download Link:
OTA download is Currently Unavailable. Use one of the .zip files attached below. (current version)

Note: There are two zip files below. Both contain the same BlingBall app.

1. The "blingball-0_9b2.zip" simply contains alx/cod files for use with Desktop Manager.

2. The "BlingBall Auto Install.zip" file contains an auto loader application. Download the BlingBall Auto Install.zip file and the ReadMe file. The ReadMe file pertains to only the BlingBall Auto Install.zip file and gives instructions for a quick, simple install of BlingBall. This is the simplest way to install BlingBall if you are not familiar with how to load applications manually using Desktop Manager.

I've loaded it on my 3 pearls and so far, so good. I'll do the black tape over the white LED when I get more time but, for now it's doing all it's supposed to! Again, nice work RGeorge!

Change the color to "Custom". You can then edit the gauges to adjust the RED, GREEN and BLUE values. (hold down the ALT key and move the trackball up/down to edit them)

I could have sworn myself that this light did not go on back in the 4.2 version OS days. 4.5 forces it on with the backlight and I have not found anything to turn it off yet.

John Clark has suggested opening the trackball and putting a piece of black tape over it.

OMG You are my hero! My GF would not upgrade to OS 4.5 since she would lose her color pearl. You have saved us from a plain white Pearl!(or dirty white). Thanks again, I will post back if there are any problems.

Hi George, many thanks for your work.

The only missing option is the random color, are you planning to include it?

It would make your program almost perfect.

I miss this program on my Curve...why did RIM do that! They should put the same multicolor option on the Curve

I will include that in the next release. Not too difficult of an option.

Yeah, it was the same in the 4.2 days. That's why I did the black tape over the white LED back then. It worked very well until I upgraded to 4.5 and deleted colorpearl and then had NO trackball light!

RGeorge, if you want to put together an OTA install, I'm sure we can find someone to host it if you can't.

A really quick way to load it is to use just the bare Loader.exe program. Plug in your BB and just go to c\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Double click the Loader.exe file. This saves you from going all through Desktop Manager.

Sweet. Had a little trouble with the install that required 2 battery pulls... first one resulting in an app error, second one was smoother.

Other than the lack of the random option I'm happy as can be!!!

Strange. I did three installs on 4.5.0.69 devices and the installs all went great. Didn't even require a reboot.

aurora, someone above already asked for this and he has agreed to add it in to the final release.

To change in Custom, change it to custom and then Save.

Than go back and highlight the color to change. Use alt + trackball to roll the numbers up and down.

Thanks! I got it.

In final version, could it change number of red, blue, green by input number. Because I have to roll the trackball 4-8times to reach my number.

There is a small bug here. My option is: Phone->options->gen. options->ringtone lighting=trackball.

When phone coming. Track ball turn white after call. But it's not important because after backlight time out. blingball will work again.
