Default BLACK PEARL Water damage Saga.

Please Login to Remove!

Ok I'm posting for the first time first to make this issue available to everyone as a knowledge to store for future references. Second to help myself learn of any solution.

On a scroll on the beach I dropped my Pearl. Yes in the water.
I removed the battery immediately. Once I got home I tried to wipe it clean but was not sure about if I had any damage allready. So I placed it in a bowl with desiccant. The next morning there was water all over the unit. I figured the moisture was sucked out from the desiccant. I tried to start it up but i would only get a red flashing light.
Knowing it was salt water and not fresh water I decide to do something stupid. I took the unit apart (pretty simple except for the #6 torque tool) and used a electrical contact cleaner to remove the salt.
( I also dropped my flash memory stick and used this method and it worked)

After cleaning everywhere I re-start the unit and voila' it started. The splash of AT&T appeared and the software security check show up. then I get UNCAUGTH EXCEPTION APPLICATION REGISTRY WAIT time out and a string of characters.

I see the scroll moving but no matter which key i pushed nothing happens.

So reading on the board I decide to wipe clean and re-install everything.
And this is where I'm stuck. my PC does not recognize my Berry. I tried everything as suggested in this board. I used the JL_Cmdr and all that but my PC USB will not recognize my berry. It said "Device Malfunction"
I beleive if I can pass this hurdle I may have my berry back. I do not care about my data or anything I want just my phone.

Does any of you had this sort of experience before ?
IS any way I can get aroud to this USB issues.

PS IF i plug the berry on a charger it shows the chargin ICON so I beleive the USB on the berry is working..

I appreacite any suggestion this forum can give me...

Welcome to the BBForums.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, if you say the device is working and charging otherwise, you might want to try another PC.

Did... at least 3 PC's all report same Device Error. The only other alternative is that the salt ate away at some of the circuitry making the USB wiring messed up ...

I'm guessing you got salt in something that doesn' like salt. I've not heard of "device malfunction" before.
