Default OS: 8100 4.50.92/4.50.69 (Multilanguage) - 09-10-2008, 11:18 PM

BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8100 smartphone [fr]

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.92 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.92
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.69
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.72
  • File name: 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel92_PL2.7.0.72_A4.5.0.69_Orange_F rance.exe
  • File size: 76.84MB
Download from here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...A5DFF913DF997A

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8100:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If you don't have DM you can use the link below:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

I'm not sure if you'll see many (if any) UI changes, but I noticed that 69 is quite a bit snappier than 55. Also, 69 more reliably reads my media library on boot up.

Hi all, newbie here... bit confused and apologies.

Just updated to .55 is it worth doing the .69? (besides the couple of points made earlier). What I;m trying to ask is a novice better off waiting to see how it performs?

My unit is the 8100

Welcome to BBF. Look 2 posts above yours, there you will see the differences I noticed coming from 55.

If the release versions are exactly the same, you will find no differences other than pehaps some langauge options

Correct. I had the English only 4.5.0.69 installed, and installing this version did not prompt for an upgrade. I did have more language options in the app loader, however, which is what I had been wanting.

I had to wipe my device and then install. But i always feel better knowing that its official release and not a beta anymore.

Why? There is no difference in the OS before and after it's been released.

I am at a public library using the PC.
When I go to the site, I don't see the 8100 listed. I see the 8120. Or is it the one callled 2.7?

Peace,

Kamau

I'm tethered to my Pearl now, and yes, I see it now. But at the library, a whole different screen opened up when I hit the "something French" button. I'll give it another go tomorrow when I have the time.
Thanks!

Peace,

Kamau

After I select the OS, it goes to a screen asking me to input all my info (name, address, etc). Is there a way to skip this step since I don't see why Orange France needsmy info here in the US.

Great, djxedxd.

Has anyone noticed with this version when using the default theme the time and date moves by a few millimetres when going between the home screen and applications?

It might have existed before but who knows =p.

The colored folders have been added back to this OS. You can have the folders without all the memory hogging wallpapers.

I normally do a javaloader wipe before installing an OS from scratch. But this is becoming more often to do and was wondering how many of you actually benefit from a javaloader wipe/install from scratch as to compared to perform the "upgrade" option...

Thanks

I just did my first ever wipe then install rather than upgrade.

I think it works faster.

This is interesting. I may have a slightly older model before somethings stablized, but it seems like I always have to shoehorn the OS in. It takes 2-3 times of moving some modules in, error, start again and move a few more modules, error, start again.

Anyway, once it got in, it started with No theme. Just a white screen with basic black icons.

You get the usual slowdowns on first access to the camera and other items but that goes away.

Yes, you can have folders to hold other icons on the Applications page.

GPS seems to hold the connection better. Still out on that one.

Going to Media tab, the Scanning bar comes up with no progress and I can't see all my stuff in my media card. I'm moving off the card now, reformat and copy back and then we will see.
