Upgraded yesterday, no issues. All my previous apps are working just fine. Seems a little quicker, not sure though, will continue to monitor my daily activity to make a better assessment.

With .69, I couldn't hear the ringer when calls come in while listening to music through head phones.

Can someone confirm this?

I don't want to go through another upgrade and application install until I know this gets fixed. (even though it is broken now)

Edit: The ringer sound comes through the external speaker and not the headphones as expected.

Unhappy Didn't quite work... - 09-29-2008, 10:51 AM

Well after the upgrade my BB keeps on randomly rebooting. Right after the upgrade finished, the automatic restore failed and the BB would boot up, get to the home screen and within 10 seconds or so it would reboot... Managed to stop that by going into the applications screen within those 10 seconds and fiddling around, then was able to restore from the backup. Everything seemed good, no reboot, until about a couple of hours later when I wasn't even doing anything with the phone, I just noticed the nice white screen during boot up.

Might try to go back down to release .92 if this keep up.

These reboots are usually caused by files on the media card.

I think you are correct! Went to the media player and while loading the pictures the BB rebooted on its own! So, got rid of all the pictures, will wait and see if this still happens. Thanks for the tip!!

Anyone know if this release is available in a Multi-Language version? I need Spanish and English.

Look for MultiLanguage version. I don't believe there is a MultiLanguage version of this OS out yet.

This is an image from my phone after I upgraded to the newest OS. Notice the little black squares where letters should be. Anyone know where trhey came from, and how to correct them? I did the battery pull.
Also, I backed up my 3rd party apps, but when I try to reinstall them, the DM says no other applications for my phone has been found. Any ideas what's going on here as well?

Default Message during Updating - 09-30-2008, 11:03 PM

When I was doing this update on my Pearl 8100, it said "You must activate your phone wirelessly to resume sending and receiving messages and to use other blackberry services"

What does that mean?

It is a common message to OS installs... it is just what it says: unless you activate the device after the install, you won't be getting any mail services.

That is the Registration you will see after the reboot upon the install.

Hey i downloaded the .81 file to Data CD, then made a copy of it on my desktop, the stup process went as expected. Went to delete the Vendor.alx file and then plugged my phone to the CPU and started the DM, it never prompted to Update, i tried it over and over again and it never updated. im currently running 4.5.0.69 now, should i leave as is or is there any difference with the .81 version? is there something im doing wrong? help plz!

Upgraded my Rogers 8100 last night. Took about 90 minutes but no issues whatsoever after upgrade. Really like the improvements on version 4.2. So nice to finally have HTML email and the better fonts.

Thanks, OP

You should delete the vendor.xml file and not the alx file. And then it will prompt you to update.

After more careful examination, I have also found that not only does my sure type no longer exists, but I also cannot access the screen/keyboard option (when I click on it in options menu, it does nothing).
Capitalizing is also not happening. When I hold the letter key down to capitalize, it enters the small case letter first, then the upper case, entering the 2 letters. I won't even mention that my camera still won't work. Same problem as with the last update.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I guess it's back to .55 for me.

Peace,

Kamau

You have more problems than a bad OS load.

Pull your battery and reboot. All those issues still exist afterward?

Yes. That's one of the first things I did (the battery pull is a lesson I learned well for solving most problems).
The only other thing I did was to optimize it. I removed all of the five favs, and languages other than english.

Desktop Manager gave me some error after it loaded everything back onto the phone, but before it restored the backup.

I restored the backup manually, and everything seems to be fine, except that under Applications, it says *** No Applications ***.

Minor nuisance. Did anyone else have this issue?

I downgraded to 4.5 b016 after my 4.7 kept failing. Maybe it's time to step back to 4.3....

"Try & try again" is my new motto.
I finally got my problems solved (all but the camera). I think I must have moved something in the optimizing process that disagreed with the phone, and that sent it into a fit. So, I started from scratch by wiping the phone, re downloading the new OS then reinstalling it. After that, I optimized VERY CAREFULLY, and everything was back to normal.
I'm beginning to see that patient is a key.
As for my camera, even though I haven't dropped it or anything like that, I'm beginning to think it's a physical issue.

Peace,

Kamau

Just installed this, and since done a battery pull. Things now very slow, lots of egg timer. The colour pearl application (change the colour of the thumbwheel) will not operate now.
Unless I can be convinced otherwise I will go back to 4.2 (I actually upgraded from 4.0) as I cant bear the slow speed of even selecting phone book etc.

No, we don't post or give links to any OS software here other than the official, safe links.

Yes. Check the stickys at the top of this forum. There is a new app called BlingBall that will work in 4.5. ColorPearl does not work properly in 4.5.

I just upgraded and it seems to be working well. I'm using one of the Today Plus themes from Blackberry (the one with the five icons on the right side) and the calendar entries shown on the opening screen are not the next two items, but are instead the two most recently added items, which are several months in the future. Anyone have any ideas how to remedy this? I apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere.

Thanks.

Dannypaul,

Not sure if you figured out your LED ALWAYS ON issue.

I had the same issue, but after searching BBF, found the cause.

You might have COLORPEARL installed. Just uninstall, and reboot. Should take care of it.

Hope it helps. And sorry, if someone already helped out.

BTW, the HTML option needs to be set to ON from options under email. Also, you will have to go to menu, after opening the email, and click on GET IMAGES. Should take care of that.

Yep, ColorPearl is outdated and doesn't work on OS 4.5. There's a sticky for BlingBall which does the same thing and works with 4.5.
