Default OS: 8100 4.5.0.108/4.5.0.81 (English+EastAsia languages) - 09-25-2008, 09:25 AM

Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8100 smartphone BlackBerry
Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (English + EastAsia languages)

This will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model--not for the 8110, not the 8120, not the 8130.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.108
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.81
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.78
* File name: 8100EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_ Voda_Australia.exe
* File size: 74.77MB

Download here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...19656875EE557C

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8100:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If you don't have DM you can use the link below:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Ok, I got it loaded. Didn't take to long at all. Surprisingly I haven't had to do any soft resets or battery pulls nice and its been snappy right from the get go. There are no noticeable changes or anything. But loading apps is nice and quick. If I notice anything else I will post back.

quick question - since I have a stock TMobile BB, equipped with v4.2.1.107 (platform 2.3.0.83) do I need to do the other updates before this one? Or can I backup my current apps and etc and go right in to this OS?

Have problems dialing a number starting with * or #?
you can get * and # to work if you hit the send button first.
I think a bug this version.

Ok, I search but I can't find it. So I will ask, is there a thread or something that list the improvements to 4.5 five as they are officially released. I went on Rim's site and can't find anything either.

Thumbs down 4.5 Update No Good For ATT 8100 - 09-26-2008, 01:24 PM

Very bugy. LED light stays on all the time. Hour glasses for everything. No HTML e-mails, Web browser hangs, no video recording, video player is unresponsive once video is being played. Going back to 4.2.

No 8100 OS will give you video recording - that's not available on the 8100. did you go into your general mail settings to turn HTML on?

Default When 1st you don't succeed... - 09-27-2008, 11:22 AM

Your right. I read the wrong model when I was looking at the list of improvements to the 8100. Blackberry's site has a chart listing whats new or improved with the 4.5 update.

As far as the HTML option, it was not there.

I am going to try it again. This time, I'll let it do a fresh install without restoring any of my aps and see if there is a difference.

Dose anyone know why my LED light would not turn off?

I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but I have a 8100 from Cingular. My friend has a 8100 from ATT and it worked fine for him. I don't know if there were any phicial changes to the device from my Cingular one to his ATT. Ill repost when I finish the install.

DannyPaul, your HTML option won't be there until you follow ALL of the HTML-enable instructions:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...lackberry.html

You don't need to reinstall anything IF you already have OS 4.5 on your BB, and the additional applications make no difference as does not the ATT/Cingular difference.

Smile Working now. - 09-27-2008, 03:20 PM

Your right. I was going to resend my services books before the update because my AOL mail was not working to well. So, yes, after the service books were resent, I was able to turn on the HTML. Even got a new AOL mail icon (Green Envelope)

Can the 8100 now handle more than just avi media files or is that the same?

Still hour glasses a lot.

Can you confirm this includes chinese characters/language, thanks.

Or should I just stick with HK CSL for v4.5.0.62 EastAsia

The title of the post, and the file name of the OS both indicate "East Asia" languages.

So, yes, it contains Chinese.

Ok, Thanks J Clark.
In the past OS, I had to use HK CSL (chinese) because previous multilanguage OS didnt have it, now its marked East Asia.
Now I can have the latest update unlike HK CSL which is still a few OS behind.

Yep, there are 3 types of OS downloads that the carriers release:

English Only
MultiLanguage (includes English and European Languages)
East Asian (Includes Chinese, Japanese and Korean, etc. and English)
