Default Jum Error 102

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Blackberry 8100 resetting itself for the last two days. This same error happened last week and I was able to correct this problem. I have since lost my notes on how to repair this problem. I would like to avoid this problem in the future. My phone was great working properly until I added Facebook application. Can anybody help me. Thanks

Welcome to BB Forums.
Sounds like Facebook corrupted the OS on the device.
It *may* be recoverable.

First - it is a JVM 102 error (Java Virtual Machine) and it happens quite a bit. Lots of information available if you search "JVM 102".

I hope you have a backup of your data. If not, it's probably gone.

Step 1 is to totally wipe out the BB -> How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

Step 2 is to reload the handheld OS for the 8100 -> http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

Be patient - the reload can take 45 minutes or so.

Good luck.

Swamp-Boy,

Thanks for the support. It took two tries but everything worked out great. Do you think that facebook application is the problem? It seems as it is but the software should be supported. Maybe the 8100 is to old.

Thanks,
BBBetz

My phone was great working properly too until I added Facebook application just 1-2 days ago. Verizon Wireless support has told me the .cod files are corrupt and I will need a new phone. They tried various fixes but could not lose the JVM Error 102 and my 8130 Pearl still not working. I'm left to search for a fix on my own. Hope the wipe and re-install will get the phone back working again. So far, I'm having trouble with the Java Commander and with it not working after download.

I have the 8700 model and just got the JVM error 102 message. After reading your comments, it sounds like all my contact numbers are lost. Someone at the AT&T store recommended I buy a new phone. They also said I would need to install the blackberry software on my computer. I did that, however do not know where to go from there. Needless to say, I am not as knowledgeable as I need to be.

Help,
elf2

Where are you right now? Did you purchase a new phone, or do you still have the JVM 102 error?

Did you wipe with JL_Cmder like it said in post #2, if so you most likely have a JVM 507 error.

If you have the 102, follow the first link in post #2, if you have the 507 or after you follow the steps in that link, then follow the steps VERY CLOSELY in this link.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ast-asian.html

Take you time, it may take upwards of an hour. BE PATIENT, and welcome to the forums.

I'm on my third bout of JVM 102, and wiping and re-loading the OS in 5 months.

Each time it happened, the battey life indicator was down to 60%. It may be a coincidence, but I certainly won't let that happen again.

I've been getting these JVM errors since October with two different Curves. Two months ago I convinced TMobile to send me a new one and the same darn thing happened with it.

I still haven't been able to narrow down the problem. Recently I was running 4.5 with only the minimum amount of apps loaded (no brickbreaker, tasks or memo pad) and only had Google Synch running. Then the JVM 102 error happpened again so I reloaded without the Google app and it's still happening.

At this point I'm considering going back to 4.3 since my phone was stable for a year while running that.

FYI, my JVM 102s happened with absolute vanilla. NO extra apps installed.

So you don't think it's related to the device failing to close a file due to waning power? I don't like recharging when it gets to 60% life left because every other device I've owned said that led to poor battery performance.

I don't think so as mine has done this while charging as well as while not charging.

It seems to me that whenever network traffic from the phone increases the chances of it rebooting and displaying the 102 error increases.
