I don`t know if this is a good place for the question i have (sorry if not). I have been looking for the most recent desktop software to manage my 8100. The one I have is the version 4.5.0 B16 and after i updated to 4.5.0.102 OS the interaction between the desktop software and 8100 its slower than before. That is not a big deal but i would like to update my desktop software. So if someone could give me a reference about the Desktop software versions that would be nice.

Thumbs up 12-01-2008, 09:27 PM

Just wanted to say I'm on AT&T and did this yesterday and all seems to be running well. I was a bit worried at first but I followed the directions just as it said and it all worked well.

I don't think there is a compatability table btw. Desktop Mgr and BB Device OS versions.

However it is always a good idea to use the latest versions of both.....

be careful though, i upgraded my Device OS to 4.5 from 4.2, without any problems. Then i made a mistake by adding the Chinese.alx worked fine on top of my old 4.2 OS to the BB, guess what?

App. Error 523

It took me a couple of long hours to solve it...........

Anyone have issues with this release and TMobile's myfavs? I was running v4.5.0.99 with no issues and figured I'd give this a try; now my MyFavs won't update 2 of the 5 contacts. 3 of the 5 are correct, but the other 2 just show an hour glass saying 'updating' but they never do.

I've tried wiping the data & restoring it and simply wiping the entire device w/out restoring it so that it pulls off the TMobile servers again with no luck. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thx.

I have myFaves too. after any update they always seem missing something.

you can fix be either going into settings > myfaves > refresh myfaves or go to the t-mobile website edit your faves section and push down new icons.

pushing down new icons always seems to fix. refreshing them works only sometimes.

jjennings089 -
Thanks. Finally got it updated. Kind of annoying, but such is life. I've had no issues going from TMobiles 4.2.1.107 -> 4.5.0.81, then .99 using DM 4.6; it backed-up/restored everything on all the upgrades no problems until this last one. Had to go to tzone and re-push the TMobile myFavs app and then it finally updated everything correctly. Not major, just a minor annoyance.

Other than that, no issues w/this update.

I had the myFaves issue with earlier releases too. It just happens sometimes. Not sure why. But as you found out, it's an easy fix. As a last resort you can call TMobile and they can push them down too.

am i the only one that gets fatal error? only with this OS... weird.. it backs up erases data, loads the new data and then i get fatal error. the only way i can fix it, is by removing the os from add/remove programs and reinstall the old .99.. is there something i'm missing? this happened on the beta and this version!

The new OS is running pretty well.. except now my t-zones WAP browser won't work. I don't ever voluntarily use the t-zones WAP browser, but if you expect to follow URLs scribed in WAP Pushes, you need to use it.

Weird thing is, I've got two T-Zones browsers in the main menu.. accompanied by two respective service books: T-Mobile USA WAP BrowserConfig and T-Mobile USA WAP2 BrowserConfig.

I was on the phone with T-Mobile for almost an hour today with no luck. I got sent over to RIM support too, but they couldn't assist cuz it's TMO's issue. I've searched around and found other threads with people experiencing the same problem.. but haven't found a solution yet. Anyone else experience this after upgrading?

Soo.. this all of a sudden started working today. I made no changes on my handset. Only significant action from yesterday's troubleshooting with TMO was that they reprovisioned my account (deact and then act). The rep said something about a lot of zeros ('000000000000000000000') at the top of my profile. <shrug> Dunno what that was about.

Maybe a stupid question but when a Blackberry is SIM Lock Free, and I want it to update with an OS like in the TS from Rogers, will it still be SIM Lock free?

Works fine here.

As an added benefit, I've found that some of my old themes that previously hadn't worked with 4.5 OSes now seems to be working. I believe they worked in the OS before this one too.

Default Refresher for 8100 on other networks. - 12-05-2008, 02:04 PM

I did this and it really works. I'm on the ATT network-- and had read other forums about ATT not allowing OS updates. So for those looking again on how to update your ATT 8100 from an older OS to 4.5.... Here is what an amazing poster posted before.

THIS WORKS!!!

"Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8100 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.139 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.139
Consisting of:
• Applications: 4.5.0.102
• Software Platform: 2.7.0.85
• File name: 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel139_PL2.7.0.85_A4.5.0.102_Rogers .exe
• File size: 78.48MB
Download here.

This download is from Rogers but will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model BB. (Not 8110, 8120 or 8130)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

If you have any pictures, downloaded ringtones, voice notes, etc on your 8100 then you should use BB Desktop Manager to copy them to your computer **BEFORE** attempting the upgrade.

I upgraded from v4.2 to v4.5 and my backup failed to reload these files. You'll need to install the Desktop Manager that contains the Media Manager utility to copy the files from your 8100 to your desktop.

Step -3: Install Desktop Manager with Media Manager
Step -2: Create backup of 8100 to desktop
Step -1: Copy all media from 8100 to your desktop
Step 0: proceed with John Clark's upgrade
Step 1: copy media back to 8100 if your content was not reloaded during upgrade

so i am on t-mo and i did this earlier today. it said there was a certain file that it coudlnt load and saved it into my documents. i tried to load it but then my phone wouldnt stay connected to my computer. not really a big deal and everything was working ok.
i think the file that it wouldnt upload had something to do with my profiles, because all of my special ringtones for ppl were gone and i had to readd all my bb messenger contacts, etc.
then i realized that it wasnt making any sounds when i got messages so i did a bat pull and that was about 30 ins ago and it just keeps the spinning hourglass with a white screen then it loads with the hourglass then it restarts itself again. and it keeps doing this. what do i need to do?

It simply didn't restore your backup file that it saved in "My Documents."

As for why it's stuck in a continuous reboot now, I'm not sure. I would wipe it with JL_Cmder in my signature. The device will show a 507 error. Then simply reload the OS to the device. When it's back up and running restore the loaderbackup.ipd file that should be in your My Documents folder.

One of the t-zones thing should go away soon, just hide them for now.

Not sure about the other things.

i'm gonna have to reinstall the os again, it keeps doing that rebooting thing. everything runs fine until it reboots once, then it gets stuck in that loop. this is sooo frustrating!

Okay, having an issue upgrading to 4.5.102 on my ATT 8100. I am running 4.5.81 now. As I have done in the past, I tried to rename the PTT file from .cod to .old. I use Notepad to open and read the files. Instead of allowing me to save it, I got an error message that the path and file name are incorrect and it was not able to save the changed files. So instead, I replaced the Platform and Blackberry files with altered files from another site (used them before with 4.2 and had no issues). Deleted the vendor file and plugged in the 8100. Desktop manager 4.5 recognized that there was updated software and began to install. Amost instantly, I got an error message in Desktop Manager that it could not install because the 4.5 Core Applications because something was missing: net.rim.platform.ecmascript

My question is, what is causing the problem? This is the first upgrade I've tried on my new computer, which runs Vista. Old computer had XP.

My vitals:

- AT&T 8100c
- Desktop manager 4.5 w/ Media Manager
- Vista

Has anyone else encountered these problems? With XP, I had no issues changing the platform and blackberry.alx files manually using Notepad. Has RIM added security features, or is Vista just playing sherriff and not allowing me to manually alter the files?

My question is, what is causing the problem? This is the first upgrade I've tried on my new computer, which runs Vista. Old computer had XP.

My vitals:

- AT&T 8100c
- Desktop manager 4.5 w/ Media Manager
- Vista

Has anyone else encountered these problems? With XP, I had no issues changing the platform and blackberry.alx files manually using Notepad. Has RIM added security features, or is Vista just playing sherriff and not allowing me to manually alter the files?

why edit these files? if you follow the instructions in the first post to the letter, you'll have no issues!
