Editing those files allows you to delete Push to Talk and VAD, which I don't use and take up memory space. And I like some of the other vendor themes, so I can add them to my phone as I wish.

I did try it without any editing and it still didn't work on Vista. All I did was delete the vendor.xml and then plugged in the BB. Desktop Manager told me no updates were available. I unistalled and reinstalled the OS, and restarted the PC three times and it didn't work .

So, I gave up on using my home PC and did the upgrade on my work laptop which runs XP. After downloading DM 4.5 and the OS in the first post here, about 30 minutes later, I had upgraded my phone. Based on this, I going to say Vista is the issue. Should have spent the extra $160 for XP on the home PC I guess.

this procedure outlined in post 1 worked like a champ for me.

To repeat what has been said many times.
!.BACKUP
1.BACKUP YOUR DEVICE
2.DO it again.
3.Copy the files off your media card.
4.reformat it
5. back up third party apps (use DM)
6. Proceed with the instructions from Post1. Follow them completely. Go slow you have the time or you wouldnt be upgrading.
relax
follow directions.

It works.

Ok so I just updated mine to the new os, but I do not like the big fonts.

Is there a way to change this?

After upgrade I also had the blinking red light. After battery pull all is well. I have noticed that my SD card performs much better as far as load and save times.

Default not working - 12-19-2008, 04:05 AM

Unspecified error encountered [A:0x00000001]
Ok.. I tried both ways. If I try to use the application loader in the desktop manager, the port goes haywire when the installation gets to "connecting to ROM"

When I tried to do it the loader.exe /nojvm in the command prompt.. It goes haywire with it tries to connect to the port "connecting to ARM"

So either way, I feel like I'm screwed.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.. Trying to time it right with the removal of the battery and playing aroung with it, to see if it will go through. As far as I can tell, once it tries to connect to the BOOT or BIOS, it's doesn't act right. And my phone just keeps rebooting.

I don't think I have a weak port. I tried all four of mine on my laptop, and they all work just fine.

I just wanted to say thanks to John Clark for providing this how-to and all the other great info he and others post here.

I just did the update to .139 and it went very well. It did a couple of things I wasn't really expecting, like deleting all my apps and my themes, but that's okay - I can just reinstall anything that went away.

I'd have never made it without this thread and a bunch of searches which answered all the questions I've had so far. I'm grateful to all of you!

Happy holidays. =)

I use Notepad to open and read the files. Instead of allowing me to save it, I got an error message that the path and file name are incorrect and it was not able to save the changed files. So instead, I replaced the Platform and Blackberry files with altered files from another site (used them before with 4.2 and had no issues). Deleted the vendor file and plugged in the 8100. Desktop manager 4.5 recognized that there was updated software and began to install. Amost instantly, I got an error message in Desktop Manager that it could not install because the 4.5 Core Applications because something was missing: net.rim.platform.ecmascript

My question is, what is causing the problem? This is the first upgrade I've tried on my new computer, which runs Vista. Old computer had XP.

My vitals:

- AT&T 8100c
- Desktop manager 4.5 w/ Media Manager
- Vista

Has anyone else encountered these problems? With XP, I had no issues changing the platform and blackberry.alx files manually using Notepad. Has RIM added security features, or is Vista just playing sherriff and not allowing me to manually alter the files?
I geting the exact same thing what could it be?

If I'm on Rogers already, then I shouldn't have to delete the vendor.xml file after installing the OS on my PC, right?

I just upgraded to this latest software, and I LOVE it. The only thing is now the mobile site from my bank does not want to work. I navigate to it and all I see is a white screen with a scroll bar at the right hand side (it doesnt scroll to anything though) and "Index.aspx" in the title bar. I know the site is working because I can get to it from my laptop. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks in advance!

I am a TMobile customer and their latest software versions are 4.3.0.17 for the desktop and 4.2.1.107 for the device. I know this thread is only about the OS, but should I get both upgrades from this link and upgrade both the device and desktop?

thanks

Default Should I send service books too after upgrade? - 01-02-2009, 07:24 PM

Just did the upgrade, and it took just over an hour. I have 9 MB of data, which doesn't seem much, so I would have expected it to go faster than that, which was the case with previous upgrades.

Nonetheless, it went well. No errors. And it's not been taking forever to load pictures the first few times I went into media files, like .81 was doing. So far so good!

One more Q: Is it a good idea to always send yourself service books after every OS upgrade too? It's not part of the instructions, but I thought I'd heard it was good practice to do so.

This one is just as fast, and allows to you to go to the home screen while streaming audio (I'm using Moodio). Also gave me a little more free mem.
One thing, if anyone decides to upgrade, my audio sounded garbled on everything, handset, speakerphone and my wired headset after upgrading. I wiped out and then did a clean reinstall of my apps and everything was good after. I normally don't restore settings from older versions, but did it this time and is the only time I have had problems after upgrading.

So you're streaming on the 8100? There was another post by someone who had managed to get Sirius Radio on their 8130. I wonder if it now would be possible to get that on the 8100...

Please help! I did the upgrade last week and the phone was working great. Seemed like a new Pearl! But today, while traveling I lost use of the browser. It just freezes when I click on it. Sometimes I can get to the page with the Bookmarks and History but no further. I did a battery pull, a soft reset, sent service books, registered via the HRT but still nothing. SO I decided to wait until I got home in case it was a service coverage issue (I was in Philly but live in Chicago), but it is still frozen.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have the version too. Do I have to format my memory card before I use it with this new OS? How about with the new ATT 4.5.0.110 OS version on the sticky? Thanks
