Latest OS: 8100 4.5.0.139/4.5.0.102 (English + European Languages) -
11-28-2008, 07:58 PM
Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8100 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.139 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.5.0.139
Consisting of: - Applications: 4.5.0.102
- Software Platform: 2.7.0.85
- File name: 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel139_PL2.7.0.85_A4.5.0.102_Rogers .exe
- File size: 78.48MB
Download here.
This download is from Rogers but will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model BB. (Not 8110, 8120 or 8130)
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click here:

Just installed it. Will report back after I've used it a bit.
Can't find docs-to-go however. Can someone tell me where to find it?

OK...got d-2-g installed.
But so far not good news on the OS. Keeps rebooting on its own and takes a VERY long time to come up.

It took me forever to find the courage to upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5.0.99.
Is there any difference between 4.5.0.99 and 4.5.0.102?

I realize bug fixes, but I was wondering if anybody noticed anything specific, so that I would know if it's worth going from .99 to .102. Anybody?

8100 Won't allow upgrade to 4.5 - HELP! -
11-29-2008, 09:54 AM
I have tried for two days to install various versions of OS 4.5, nothing. I have downloaded several OS's (and have uninstalled and rebooted before installing new), delete vendor.xml file, nothing. I have a T-Mobile 8100, have used Desktop Manager 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 (uninstall, reboot, install new version, etc) and have performed all steps, including Vista's "Run as Administrator" - nothing.
The only OS that will work on the 8100 is the latest T-Mobile version from their website, regardless of what steps I take and what I do with the vendor.xml file. I have also tried the Loader application for the appLoader folder (Program Files/Common/Research in Motion/AppLoader), nothing. If I use JL_Cmder to wipe my 8100 and load that way (with deleting the vendor.xml file prior to plugging in my 8100), still get msg that device software is up to date, or that device software is not found.
I have been in IT for a long, long time - and nothing has been as frustrating as this. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!

I currently have the beta .102 installed. My 8100 is a Rogers phone. Is there any advantage to DLing this version and installing it over the installation I already have?

Do NOT use JL_Cmder. Then you'll just have a dead device that won't upgrade. Search your PC (including hidden files) for another vendor.xml. I think it installs in c:\Users\yourusername\appdata\virtualstore. Do a search and delete ALL instances of vendor.xml

Are you following the directions correctly, because I have the same problem when I don't. Once I started to do things right, I have no problems.
I'm not trying to insult you or anything, but do as I did. Print the instructions so that you have them right next to you. Then, follow them step-by-step. Trust me, these guys here know their stuff when it comes to this, and have probably heard your problem before.
Good Luck!

No advantage at all. .102 is .102 and there is no defference between what you already have and this version.

Thanks JC. Oh and thanks for the help on the other issues I was having as well - no need to call Rogers for a new phone - problems seem to have worked themselves out. My thought was since this is my carrier's official release, if I needed support, better to have their version than the beta.
Thanks again!

There is nothing branded in the OS. There is no difference. Its the exact same OS. Once its on the phone there's no telling where you downloaded it from and what carrier released it. You have the official Rogers version since rogers decided to release it. You're good to go, even if you need support.

Well..went from 4.2 to this version and nohing but trouble so far. Constantly rebooting itself and gets stuck at the hourglass. When it does come up, VERY slow. Get an hourglass even when I move around the menu.
And of course, that short time it did work it crashed when I tried using the bluetooth.
Could it have something to do with my SD card? It still has the original 4.2 formatting on it.

It seems like you already know the answer.
Remove the card and see how the device responds.

Thanks buddy. I did try it right after my post and it seems MUCH better.
But why would that affect performance? Anyway, I'll reformat it.
Thanks again.

It's most likely a file or files that are causing the problems. Could be a picture, or a video, etc. If you move files back do them one folder at a time so you can narrow down which file(s) are causing the problems. Reformat and then add files back.

Thanks again.
Problem is I can't format using my phone because it won't boot up with the card in it and I don't have a card reader so I can't use my PC to format it. Guess I'll have to wait till I see my daughter who also has a Pearl with 4.2 on it and I'll format it then.
Now I just have to figure out why I don't get email anymore.

OS working fine. Too things i have noticed:
1) When i go to the Media Gallery, the is a message on the bottom of the screen that says "Scanning". It has been there for a while. Not sure what it is scanning since my media card is empty.
2) When i reboot, i get a bluetooth message that it lost connection with my car although I am no where near my car. Weird...

Does .102 load just as quickly? I dont' want to upgrade and cause things to slow down again!
Thanks.

Bluetooth not as good -
11-30-2008, 11:15 AM
I'm generally very happy with the new firmware. I came all the way up from, what was it, 4.x.96--the original shipped.
The ONLY thing I have noticed is that the Bluetooth connection between the 8100 and my Motorola T505 speakerphone is much worse. Callers sound OK, but can no longer hear me well--constant breakup. It's as if the range has been drastically reduced.
I've tried disabling encryption and toggled a few other options to no avail.
Otherwise, I greatly prefer this firmware/OS.

loaded it-Rogers- and looks/works great- no hitches... except the red LED does not want to go out. It flashed when an email arrives but the default seems to be on now.
Ideas?

Sounds like you have colorpearl installed. If so, remove it and install BlingBall in the sticky threads in the 8100 Forum

Installed it, and working fine so far. A few hour glasses now and again, but they don't lost long. I'm running this on Rogers and wondering if they support the HTML email? If so, how do I enable it? Can't seem to find the thread I found the other night. Rensent service book but that didn't seem to do anything.
