Default 8100 screen doesn't work after spillage

Hi all,

My sister, being the paragon of responsibility that she is, spilled a shot of vodka on her Pearl a while back. She pulled the battery for about 12 hours, but got impatient and put it back in. (I'd told her to leave it out for at least 24 hours).

The phone seemed to work more or less fine for a while, but suddenly about a day or two ago the screen's backlight failed to come on. You can kind of see the LCD part of the screen is working if you look at it under a bright light, but the backlight doesn't come on. Any ideas on fixing this, or should she take this as a lesson to be more careful?

Though, frankly, this is the 5th or 6th phone she's ruined, so I don't know how much she's taking these "lessons" to heart...
