8120 "Invalid SIM Card"
 

Hi there I recently got a used 8120 but it won't accept my SIM card. It is a Rogers blackberry and I currently have a plan with Fido, a Rogers subsidiary. The phone keeps saying "Invalid SIM card". I was under the impression that a Fido SIM should work fine with a Rogers phone. Is there anything I can do or am I out of luck? I've wanted a blackberry for a long time and now I'm worried I can't even use it.

I don't know about the situation with the carrier, but I assume you have fiddled with the SIM to make sure contacts are clean and it is seated properly.

Worse comes to worse, you could get the blackberry unlocked, right?

I have tried to make sure that it's seated properly, but what do you mean about the contacts being clean?

I might try unlocking it if worse comes to worst, but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Fido operates on the Rogers network.

I had trouble with a sim once. Taking it out and replacing did no good. I wiped the contacts with a microfiber cloth I use for glasses, and it worked. Maybe coincidence, I don't know. Worth a try, wiping with a lint free cloth.

A Fido SIM will not work in a Rogers locked phone. You can unlock the phone for use on other carriers. It's around $15 or $20 to do so. Horizon Wireless is one of the best. I've used them a few times and they always got the unlock code to me within a day.
