hey all...i have a bb that i've never updated before and i was going to attempt the process for the first time this evening...wish me luck, lol. anyway, i was just wondering what happens to all of your preferences when you upgrade to a new os (fonts, ringtones, themes, etc.)? also, should i remove the sd card when doing so? all of my ringtones and pictures are one here and i'm wondering if i should remove it when upgrading. one final question, i know i should probably back everything up before upgrading, so when i plug my bb into desktop manager won't it automatically check for software updates? is there a way to bypass this so that i can backup without having to worry about the os update? thanks for all of the help! bb for life..

Do a complete backup first.

Your preferences and settings will all restore in the process. You don't need to remove the Media Card.

Use the instructions in the Sticky Note for the 8130 model (if that is your model) at the very top of this 8100 section, not using Desktop Manager but loader.exe.

the software i am currently running is 4.3.0.81 (i know i haven't updated in a looooong time). when i go to download the latest software from the link in the 8130 sticky thread it gives me an optoin for 4.5 and for 4.3...which on do i want? also to do backups is the latest version of the desktop software what i am looking for (version 4.7)? thank you!!

Upgrade to the latest version of the 8130 handheld OS. There is a sticky thread at the top of the 8100 Discussion Forum with the link. Follow the instructions there.

i know i about the sticky thread...i mentioned that in my post. when i click on the link it gives me an option for 4.3 or 4.5. which one do i want to upgrade to? do i stick with 4.3 since that is my current software or do i go with 4.5?

I updated the os no problem for all of those that have been paying attention to my posts...lol. Not many of you I'm sure...

What did you use? Desktop manager or Loader?

I have 4.3.091 and when I connected using the desktop manager it told me it has updates available to load 4.5. It says during the update it will back the data per the configuration.

Should I use the desktop manager or loader.exe? Many have said use loader but except that you use OS from another carrier I am not sure why? The 4.5 update is is comeing from my carrier ATT.

Suggestion which to use...

The directions we have posted in the Sticky Thread noted in this thread is to use Loader.exe... does that answer your question about which we suggest to use?
