I came home today to find that my wife had purchased an Alltel 8130 and she was a bit frustrated after playing around with it. So I taught her some basics and then we tried to access the internet, but where is the browser?

This should be an easy fix but it is beyond me. I have searched for a solution on the board, I have resent service books multiple times, I have checked to make sure that the icon is not hidden and I have done numerous battery pulls. In a desperate attempt to fix this I have even updated the OS from 4.3 to the latest 4.5 version - successfully, but no luck. The Desktop manager shows that it is there, the application list on the 8130 shows that it is there, yet I cannot find it.

I have a 8330 of my own that I have become very familiar with, so I understand some of the quirks of these gadgets, but I cannot figure this one out.

On AT&T, they start you with no browser button, so you have to use the Media Net icon. Could this be something similar? Try an alternate (3rd party) theme and see if it shows up. Do you have a data plan?

Another option?
Go to Options>Advanced>Browser and set Default browser configuration to "Internet Browser">Save

There is no "Media Net" icon on the desktop. I'm not sure how a theme would help me find the browser, but I guess I could try that. And yes, her phone is on the same data plan that my phone has been using for months. We simply added it in to the same account.

Something else, I am also unable to find Blackberry Maps...

Phone and SMS work fine.

That was the very first thing I tried. There is no available option on that setting. It is simply blank. That is why I thought that perhaps the browser wasn't loaded correctly and eventually led me to a complete OS upgrade. But of course the browser is still not showing up on that menu, so I'm baffled.

Yeah, not being familiar with T-Mobile, I wasn't sure if they did anything similar to Media Net on AT&T. When I recently had to wipe and reload my phones operating system, the browser button wasn't there. I did have Media Net though. When I reinstalled my favorite theme, the browser button ws back, hence the suggestion.

Now it sounds like a service book thing...

One last thing and I'll bow out. Under Options>Advanced>Applications>Option click Browser>Edit Default Permissions, does anything look amiss there? Any deny settings chosen?

Even though she added it to the same account I have a feeling its not configured right on their end, take it back to the store or give them a ring.

That's what it seems like to me as well. Like I mentioned before, I have resent the service books before and after each battery pull - shut down - OS upgrade - etcetera, hoping that would solve the problem.

I'll just have to call customer service tomorrow I suppose. I have put enough hours into this on my end tonight. Seems like the ball is back in their court. Thanks for the input guys.

it has been happening a quite a bit according to my wife(vzw employee)...ive been the victim only once recently.


if you are on a bis log in and resend your service books.
or
what i did was
options>advanced options>service book>blackberry internet browsing service
hit the bberry button and delete
then bberry button again and undelete
then do a battery pull


this worked for me the other night

On my 8130 I was able to get it back by going to advanced options and select Host Routing Table>menu key>register now. I then got a registration email from Blackberry and my icon back.

Do you have a data service on your account with your carrier?

Thanks for all the advice guys, but like I mentioned above I've already done this a few times in combination with other steps as well as by itself. Resending the service books has had no effect. I have done multiple battery pulls, I have successfully downloaded the newest OS, I have a data plan in conjunction with my other Blackberry 8330, etc.

The most likely scenario is that we were told that we were on the data plan but it was never implemented by Alltel. I will be calling customer service as soon as I get an hour to sit on hold...
