Default Two 8100 pearls, one drops calls

Please Login to Remove!

I have 2 8100 pearls with the same 4.5 os installed. The newer one with att drops calls (call failed), the cingular 8100 had no such problems.

Should i format and reinstall 4.5 on the att phone. Would i need a better antenna for it?

I'd say the problem is ATT, not the phone or the OS. The fact that the cingular phone works pretty much confirms that. ATT network has been having problems lately on the east coast. You could call them before you start messing with the phone.

I'm confused. So cingular and att have different networks? I thought they merged both networks.

I'm not sure about what i should do about the phone that drops calls.

This likely isn't a network issue. Try reloading 4.5 on the phone that drops calls. If that doesn't correct the issue, it may very well be an antenna problem.

OK. It was dropping calls before i upgraded it, original os was 4.3. Still drops calls.

Would wiping the os clean and installing work ?

It wouldn't hurt, but based on the fact that the condition is unchanged moving from one OS to another, we're heading towards your antenna as the culprit.

Is it easy to replace the antenna?

I opened both of these pearls before, the one that works has a tape, film like antenna and the bad one seems to have a board antenna.

I've never done one myself, but I understand it is relatively easy. The difference in antenna type may be the root of your problem.
