Default ? for the BB ninja's - 03-30-2009, 09:15 PM

Hello all,

N00B here to BB, but not to electronics nor wireless technology, 12 years working for ATTWS/CING before moving out of the industry. I recently picked up a BB 8100 for a good price to be used on my tmobile shared plan with my faves. It came with 4.2.1.107 and seemed to be ok. After reading all weekend and learning what this thing can do, I decided to do some upgrading.

I updated the os to 4.5.0.124, which seems to be allot nicer. I reloaded some apps I thought I would use, set up my email and converted some movies and loaded those on my sd card ( 4g) along with a few hundred songs and the quality is very nice. :D

So today as I am sitting, learning more I decided to set up my aol/yahoo/msn/google talk instant messengers. Thats where I started having problems. Anytime I try and log in I get "Service not enabled for this handset" My question is could this be because of the updated OS, or due to the "mindset" of the customer service reps at Tmobile? I had IM service working on my last phone, so I would think it would have moved to the new phone.

It took a total of 4 calls and about 3 hours to get the imei change and service upgrade done so I am not sure if it is tech error or OS issues.

My second ? is will updateing the OS void anything on the TMobile side? I see the only OS I can DL from their site is the previous one 4.2.1.107. I have insurance on the new handset and I don't want problems if I ever have and insurance claim due to the non supported OS.

Thanks for the help

DBB

1) Do you have a BlackBerry data plan? Not a generic data plan.

2) No, it will not void your warranty, if you would need to return your device, you could always roll back to a previous version.

yes, I have the unlimited data BB plan from Tmobile and unlimited im and text due to my family shared plan.

Ok, I will call them, I was worried my upgraded OS would raise flags

thanks,

so I ended up having to downgrade software to 4.2.1.107 to get all of Tmobiles features to work with my BB......very lame, so I chose instant messenger service or the better smoothness and the ability of watching mvies on my phone....?????

Sorry tmobile that sucks, why cant I use my BB for all it can do and not what you decide?

There's no need to downgrade your OS to get the features you want.

Sounds great. What do I need to make the basic messengers (aol/msn/yahoo) work on 4.5.0.124 with tmobile then?

I put 124 back and love the features and movie/radio ability but would like the others too
