Question canceled data plan, how do i not get charged?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys! I have a question, I am with Rogers provider and I have just canceled my data plan because really i have no need for the internet use and my new contract has unlimited email/bb messenger/sms but if i was to go use internet i would get charged big money for it. I am afraid that blackberry might either update its self every now and then or download some new application or something like that, connect to internet by its self... and i want to avoid getting charged for that. What do i have to disable on my phone so there is no way my phone would connect to internet by its self??

By the way I am using a BlackBerry Pearl 8100

in advance, thanks!

You shouldn't be able to access the Internet. Once you changed from the full BlackBerry plan, you should no longer have the browser service book, and therefore no longer have the browser.

And do not use a map application with your GPS. That is big data!

Easiest thing to do, is turn data services off on your BlackBerry.

Options>Mobile Network>Data Services>Off

Turning off data services would also turn off email and BBM.

I didn't actually read the OP!

Not sure how your BB plan works, but most I've seen include data, so I'd say you've not got alot to worry about.

Some North American carriers (T-Mobile US and Rogers CA) offer BlackBerry plans that don't include data use, only e-mail. They are generally cheaper than full BB plans. T-Mobile offers their limited plan for $9.99/mo.

Ouch!

You guys in the US/CA really get ripped off for your mobile bills!

Over here in the UK if you buy a BlackBerry on a new contract, the max you'll pay if 5.00 a month for BIS, and that'll include something like 200mb of data.

BES varies, I pay 25.00pm for BES (and that include unlimited data), but some charge up to 50.00pm

Not really in the US... With full BIS plans ($24.99-$29.99 on most providers), data transfer of any sort (messaging, web, streaming) is completely unlimited (although two carriers have soft 5GB caps).

Does Tmobile still have that email only plan? Impression was that they got rid of it.

I think so, but it doesn't affect this thread either way.

Right. Was just curious since I remember seeing it before but not recently. Thanks!

You won't be able to do either of those things without a BlackBerry plan anyway, so it doesn't matter.
