Default Constant Data, But What??? Help Needed. - 06-04-2009, 06:55 PM

I have a BlackBerry 8120 and I'm on AT&T Prepaid. I have internet/data access. Those familiar with AT&T Prepaid aka GoPhone know that a service message pops up every time data, voice, etc are used to alert the user of how much balance is remaining on the account.

My problem is, I'm constantly getting these messages. My connection is active and I can see that in the signal bar, but I have no idea what the heck is being pushed (or pulled) to my phone. I've looked through all my programs and apps but can't seem to find anything with an active connection.

Is there a way to find out this via diagnostics or some such thing? I would really like to find out why my data is so active.

To see what is running press ALt + Escape. Anything over the base 5 applications (Phone, BBM, Browser, home and messages) is extra.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have anything beyond those 5 but I did just uninstall Opera Mini in case it was prefetching. I'll see if that stops the data flow.

Does your device have Wifi or GPS? If it's GPS try disabling it. Otherwise, are you sure you don't have anything else installed like Google Maps?

It has wifi but not gps. I do have Google Maps installed but it doesn't appear to be connected in any way. At the very least, it wasn't using data when I first installed it unless I was interacting with it.

Wirelessly posted

It probably means nothing. Try this though, go to Browser and select menu->Close. Browser stays running but will not do anything until you open it again.

Let's back up. Have you done a battery pull?

Yeah I've pulled the battery and rebooted several times. It's not continuous as if I'm streaming music. It's constant as in every so often it'll push (or pull) data to and/or from my device despite supposedly sitting idle. It's as if something is being updated but there's nothing on here that I can find that is getting updates.

I have now closed the data connection so that it can't communicate, but for the life of me I can't figure out what's talking to what or why.

I know this is old and my Pearl is no longer active, but I think it was WorldMate Live. AT&T stopped their excessive notifications though so it's moot. Plus, I'm with Sprint now so it's even more moot.

when using an app, particularly one thta requires data, make sure you hit "CLOSE" and not just exit out. Exiting out can sometimes leave the app running and therefore using data. Using "CLOSE" shuts it off completely (or at at least it is supposed to do so!)

WorldMate is a travel itinerary app and updates whether it's closed or not.
