Default continuous data access drains battery in 4 hrs

Please Login to Remove!

Help! I have an 8100 and overnight there's something happening that drains the battery in 4 hours or less. I've wiped the phone, and reinstalled the latest OS from t-mobile's site. I also purchased a new battery, none of which helped.

If I turn the data services off, battery usage goes back to normal. When data service is on, the little dual-direction arrow in the upper right corner never stops. There's obviously SOMETHING causing continuous data connection and I can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated. thx.

Wirelessly posted (8820)

The obvious question first:

What apps do you have running besides the core message, phone, and so on? Close them. Close them completely, so they are not running in the background.

Instead of the "back" button, you must go to the menu and select close.

The easiest way to see what you have open is to hold the "alt" button and push the back button, it will bring up whatever you have open and then you can go into the menu and select close which should fix your problem

I only have the default applications running. Everything that I can close, is closed.

And also please list all applications installed, except for the BB Core apps (click on Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications to see them all)

The other thing you can do is set the device up to go to sleep at a certain time, say 11 PM and then wake up at say 7 AM.

I had a similar problem; it turned out to be my latest revision of Google Maps for Mobile, and it caused a nasty surprise after my last US vacation (I'm in Canada). Little data transferred, but 'Roaming' charges for thousands of minutes at a time!

Why? I forgot to hit menu/exit to close the application. Instead I closed it by using the hang-up key. Little did I know that it still ran in the background!
