In response to an e-mail received from Blackberry, I unfortunately made the decision to upgrade the Device Software on my Pearl 8100 to ver. 4.5. This has turned out to be a big mistake. Now I cannot open any attachments that are delivered to my phone by e-mail. Further, Documents to Go touts that you can save and view Word docs and Excel spreadsheets, etc. I cannot even do that. Before, I was able to view all images, pdf files, word docs, excel spreadsheets, etc. What a disappointment! I have tried to download the former device software ver. 4.2 and reinstall same, but am unable to do so. Please advise of specific instructions to reinstall ver. 4.2.

Sounds to me like you forgot to check off the 'BlackBerry Attachment Service' when you upgraded to 4.5.

Before downgrading to 4.2 (which would be a mistake, in my opinion) try running the Application Loader in Desktop Manager again, and make sure you've got the Attachment Service selected to be installed on your device.

penguin3107 its right, I also think OS 4.5 its a lot better than 4.2.
Check for the 'BlackBerry Attachment Service' with the desktop manager maybe you didn't check it.

Thanks. I re-installed after checking off the Blackberry Attachment Service. This indeed solved the problem of opening .doc files. What is really frustrating is that I still cannot open .xls or PDF's, which I could under ver. 4.2.
