Default 8110 Wireless indicator

I have a BB pearl 8110 smartphone on t-mobile PAUGo and on my Desktop a Freedom to surf contract and on switch on my mobile displays GSM and then changes to lower case gprs. I am trying to set up up email as I am going into hospital and wish to keep in touch with my wife who cannot use the computer but has a mobile. May be it is not possibe
Appreciate any help

You must have the BlackBerry Data Plan from your carrier to use the RIM push email functions and internet.

Call your carrier and inquire about that.

Thank you for the reply I am new to this site so I am unsure of the correct proceedure to reply.
Do you mean my broadband Desktop carrier or my t-mobile PAUG carrier.
I am unsure if I can use my Broadband.
