Default New BB Owner - UMA issues (Again probably !)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all

New BB owner, and blown away at how good the little Pearl is

OS is v.4.5.0.52 and I've had it about 2 weeks...

All was fine, connected to router and up until Saturday, when I was at home, I'd get the UMA icon displayed, however since Saturday, it refuses to show the icon, instead displaying GPRS - I've checked the status, and it shows wifi connected etc, it just won't go into UMA.

I don't know then, whether when I go online, I'm using part of my data plan, or, whether I'm using my broadband connection, and it's starting to frustrate me.

I tried searching but couldn't really find the specific issue - can anyone point me in the right direction to sort it out ? Is it an OS issue, or, a router issue ? I rebooted my router on Sat night, and the BB picked up a UMA signal, but since then, nada, just sits in GPRS all the time....

Kinda annoying at the moment, as it puts you in fear about browsing online etc

Thanks in advance !

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Wonder if it might be a service outage issue with your carrier? Happened to Tmobile users a while back.

In the meantime have you checked your mobile network options -- Manage Connections>Mobile Network Options>Connection Preference. Set it to wifi preferred or wifi only and see if that doesn't change things.

Hi There - After much googling, I got home yesterday and armed with my phone, wandered the house like a lunatic, nodding my head manically and then saw that I had "dead spots" for UMA at various locations.

Oh how I laughed

Cheers for that - one thing though, and I'm buggered if I can find an answer anywhere, if I'm on Orange (UK), and use the UMA facility through BT Broadband to make a call, who charges me (if at all) ? Orange say they don't know and BT (India) said, "What ?"...would be kinda useful to know before I go calling willy nilly.

I can only speak from my experience with Tmobile in the US and their UMA service. If you don't sign up for the additional plan, uma minutes is deducted from your plan's minutes like any other phone call. If you do have the plan, any uma calls are free.

Chances are I would imagine any charges would be from your carrier and not broadband provider.
