dear Reader,
I am a new owner of a BB and have some questions concerning the apps.
I have done some research to get some apps but they all need to be downloaded from the device and my plan does not include internet, only email.
So i was wondering if theres a way to download an app from a pc and then transfer it to the device, because i cannot go on the web with my device and when i try it gives me a messages saying that theres a connection problem, so i can't even go on the web with a fee on my bill.

Hi, I am also the owner of a BB 8100 on fido.

First of all (just a heads up), you might want to add in your TCP settings for internet access, just incase you want to use the internet for any reason.

Hit up Advanced Options>TCP and type in the following:

APN: internet.fido.ca
username: fido
password: fido

As for your actual question, you can download BlackBerry Desktop Messenger and install the apps from there. You will need the desktop version of the app to do this.

is there a way that I can just bypass the carrier's online feature and use my existing internet connection by using a router to access the internet on my bb pearl 8100?

That would only work for BlackBerry devices with wifi capbility. Unfortunately the 8100 does not have this feature.

is it desktop manager or messenger because I don't find the desktop messenger. And the TCP what does it do exactly?

And are the apps free?

I just recently came across a program called BlueSoleil and it was mentioned just recently on another forum...

Have not tried it yet myself but BlueSoleil seems to be a pretty popular program if you do a search for it on google.

Ok thx but i downloaded the desktop manager but i dont understand where to get the apps from, where is the list or whatever? how do you do it?

and what does it mean when the trackball is red??

Desktop manager only does the following: install/remove apps, backup/restore your device, perform synchs.

There is no "master" list of apps. Generally just go google what sort of program you want, though a good place to start would be the Aftermarket section of this forum.

Once you locate a desired app and depending on its format you can either: 1) download it onto your computer and use desktop manager to install it; or 2) download and install the app OTA (over-the-air). OTA requires a data plan and is generally the easiest and more common way that apps are downloaded/installed.

Not sure but I know that one of the great features of the 8100 is being able to have multiple color choices for your trackball. Every other BlackBerry user only has a white trackball but 8100 users have red, blue, green, purple?
